Job Description

The Facilities & Transportation Manager is a critical leadership role responsible for the strategic oversight and daily operations of the York School Departmentโ€™s facilities, maintenance, and transportation services.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in facilities management, hands-on knowledge of maintenance and safety standards, and experience navigating student transportation logistics. We are seeking an organized, proactive leader with excellent communication skills to manage a dedicated team and ensure our schools run safely, efficiently, and sustainably.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilities & Operations Management
  • Maintenance & Renovations: Oversee all school building maintenance, routine repairs, capital improvements, and renovation projects.
  • Sustainability Initiatives: Implement energy-efficient practices and forward-thinking sustainability initiatives across district facilities.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure strict compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards.
  • Team Leadership: Manage, schedule, and support custodial and maintenance staff to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students and staff.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Develop, monitor, and effectively manage the annual facilities and maintenance budget.
  • Transportation Coordination
  • Vendor & Route Management: Partner closely with our Student Transportation Company partner to coordinate, optimize, and manage daily school bus routes and schedules.
  • Van Operations: Directly organize school van routes, manage van utilization, and clearly define driver responsibilities.
  • Staffing Support: Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, and coordination of district drivers.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience: Proven experience in facilities management, property maintenance, or corporate/educational operations. Experience in student transportation or logistics is highly desirable.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage, motivate, and lead a diverse team of custodial and operational staff.
  • Budgeting: Strong financial acumen with experience managing operational and project budgets.
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with school administration, vendors, staff, and the community.
  • Problem-Solving: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects, adapt to changing priorities, and handle emergencies calmly.
