JOB SUMMARY:

As Manager of Carrier Development, your primary responsibilities will be sourcing contract carrier capacity and negotiating rates for any potential opportunities, newly awarded business, or existing business through RFP's and direct carrier communication. You will be leveraging existing Alliance carrier relationships and your own carrier relationships, as well as developing new carrier relationships to complete this task. Delivering the results of your efforts will include assisting in the completion of customer RFPโ€™s, publishing carrier rate contracts, maintaining carrier matrices in TMS, and on-boarding carriers for each business unit. Microsoft Excel is the industry standard platform for internal and external RFPโ€™s and proficiency in Microsoft Excel is strongly preferred.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sourcing contract capacity for potential business.

  • Sourcing and improving contract capacity for existing business units.

  • Contract rate negotiation.

  • Publish and maintain external carrier rate contracts as well as carrier rate matrices within TMS.

  • Carrier database development and maintenance.

  • Contract carrier on-boarding.

  • Assistance with customer RFP processes.

  • Spot rating (minimal, as needed).


Carrier Network Development

  • Identify, recruit, and onboard new carrier partners (trucking companies, owner-operators, etc.)

  • Build and maintain a diversified, scalable carrier network to meet capacity demands

  • Evaluate carriers based on service quality, safety, compliance, and cost-effectiveness


Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key carrier partners

  • Develop long-term strategic partnerships to improve service and reliability

  • Conduct regular business reviews and performance discussions


Performance Monitoring & Optimization

  • Track and analyze carrier performance metrics (on-time delivery, claims, compliance)

  • Implement improvement plans for underperforming carriers

  • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure optimal carrier utilization


Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure all carriers meet regulatory, safety, and insurance requirements

  • Maintain accurate carrier records and documentation

  • Monitor industry regulations and ensure adherence


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with procurement, operations, and customer service teams

  • Support pricing strategy by providing carrier market insights

  • Assist in contract negotiations and rate benchmarking


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 to 10+ years of experience in transportation logistics, supply chain analysis, or operations planning.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to evaluate complex logistics scenarios and recommend strategic solutions.

  • Experience interpreting freight market trends and operational data.


PREFER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience advising customers on transportation strategy.

  • Knowledge of freight market dynamics and carrier operations.
