Job description

Summary

The BUNA Logistics Manager is responsible for end-to-end coordination of domestic and international shipments for all BUNA facilities, covering FCL/LCL ocean, FTL/LTL road, and parcel movements. This role leads a small logistics team and partners closely with Operations, Customer Service, Sales, Quality/Safety and Finance to ensure on-time, cost-effective, and compliant shipments. Success in this role hinges on proactive planning, Carrier/3PL/Freight Forwarder management, accurate documentation (including export/import compliance), and continuous process improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Lead and develop direct reports—assist in prioritizing workload, set goals, train on SOPs/compliance, and coach for performance.

Develops and organizes traffic procedures according to company policy.

Negotiates freight rates with outside carrier base and maintains vendor relationships.

Monitors international shipments and understands container utilization and methods of packing.

Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal and global regulations of commerce.

Ensure compliance with Incoterms, HTS Classification, and export/import controls.

Monitor EAR/ITAR awareness and escalate potential restricted-party or license requirements to compliance.

Maintain accurate records for audits and internal controls (e.g., AES/EEI, broker instructions, POA, PO/CO documentation).

Import/export compliance audits - review legal and accuracy of import/export/domestic documentation.

Confirms International Ocean and Air Freight purchase orders in database and monitors freight dispatch advice.

Reviews 3rd party material handling & warehouse services.

Determines transportation method of purchased items from vendors.

Supports Logistics Coordinators with all customer shipping issues, including claims for loss or damage, and reviews carrier insurance liability on an annual basis.

Assist Logistics Coordinators in managing "unusual size" pallet shipments with carriers reducing risk of damage.

Knowledge of Logistic Coordinator’s role and responsibilities with the ability to provide coverage when Logistic Coordinator is not available. (PTO, Bereavement, Jury Duty, Training and other times of absence)

Completes annual custom bond applications and ensures bond coverage will not become saturated before renewal.

Drive continuous improvement in freight cost, delivery performance, process efficiency, root-cause analysis for delivery failures, damages, or cost overruns; implement preventive measures.

Knowledge of OSHA safety practices for shipping/receiving environments and dock operations.

Creates and maintains Standard Operating Procedure for Logistics Manager & Coordinator positions.
