Are logisticians in demand?

Logisticians are in demand due to the ongoing need for efficient supply chain management across various industries. Employment for logisticians is expected to grow faster than average, with skills in data analysis, logistics software, and supply chain optimization being highly valued. This trend reflects the increasing complexity of global logistics networks and the importance of cost-effective operations.

What is the difference between Logistics Design vs Logistics Coordinator?

AspectLogistics DesignLogistics Coordinator
Primary RoleDevelops and plans logistics systems, routes, and supply chain strategiesCoordinates daily logistics operations, shipments, and inventory management
Required SkillsSupply chain planning, logistics software, problem-solvingCommunication, organization, scheduling
Work EnvironmentDesign offices, planning departmentsWarehouses, distribution centers, transportation hubs
CertificationsSupply Chain certifications (e.g., CSCP), logistics degreesLogistics or supply chain certifications (e.g., CLTD)

Logistics Design focuses on creating and optimizing supply chain systems and strategies, while Logistics Coordinators handle the day-to-day execution of logistics operations. Both roles are essential in supply chain management but differ in scope and responsibilities.

What are the 4 types of logistics?

The four main types of logistics are inbound logistics, which involves receiving and storing raw materials; outbound logistics, managing the distribution of finished products; internal logistics, focusing on internal movement within a company; and reverse logistics, handling returns and recycling. Logistics professionals often use tools like transportation management systems (TMS) to optimize these processes.

What is design for logistics?

Design for logistics involves planning and organizing supply chain processes to optimize the movement, storage, and delivery of goods. It includes developing efficient layouts, selecting appropriate transportation methods, and implementing systems to reduce costs and improve service. Logistics designers often use tools like CAD software and require knowledge of supply chain management principles.

What is the highest paid job in logistics?

In logistics, senior roles such as Logistics Director or Supply Chain Vice President tend to be the highest paid, often earning six-figure salaries. These positions require extensive experience, strategic planning skills, and often involve overseeing large teams and complex supply networks.

Position Summary

Aegis Aerospace is seeking a Mission Design Engineer to support NASA’s Deep Space Logistics Engineering Support contract at Kennedy Space Center. This position supports NASA in reviewing and assessing Deep Space Logistics commercial provider activities and internal studies related to cargo and payload delivery to the lunar surface, cislunar space, and other Deep Space Logistics mission projects and interests.

Under the Deep Space Logistics Engineering Support contract, employees provide engineering support to NASA to review and assess requirements, design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, verification, validation, assembly, integration, checkout, mission preparations, and operations required to support Deep Space Logistics efforts.

The Mission Design Engineer provides support on behalf of NASA customers to determine, negotiate, and implement mission-enabling Mission Design requirements for Deep Space Logistics systems and associated hardware. This position will also perform independent modeling and simulation tool development and analysis to support independent verification and validation of requirements while working closely with the mission design team.

Key Responsibilities:

The candidate will:

  • Assist with software development and scripting of NASA’s trajectory optimization tools and related applications.
  • Develop new features and algorithms requested by the NASA customer.
  • Perform refactoring and improvements to software architecture for program efficiency.
  • Support integration with other trajectory software and tools.
  • Perform general program maintenance and fixes.
  • Ensure NASA requirements are satisfied by design solutions and support production/control board meetings, design reviews, and system reviews.
  • Support regression testing and documentation.
  • Provide trajectory products supporting spacecraft mission design and analysis for Deep Space Logistics Moon Base missions and other missions directed by the Deep Space Logistics Project Office.
  • Perform trajectory optimization runs to characterize vehicle performance and mission availability for a variety of scenarios.
  • Support development, integration, and testing of new algorithms for evaluation of vehicle and mission performance.
  • Support mission scenarios including ascent, entry, precision landing, and Rendezvous Proximity Operations and Docking.
  • Travel as required in support of technical reviews and exchanges.
  • Provide recommendations for program acceptance of requirements verification, testing, risks, and hazards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school plus eight (8) or more years of experience with spacecraft trajectory analysis; or MS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school plus four (4) or more years of experience with spacecraft trajectory analysis.
  • Demonstrated capability to independently devise solutions to complex engineering problems through individual effort and by soliciting input from other technical experts.
  • Expertise in orbital mechanics and/or spacecraft mission design.
  • Experience with programming and scripting languages such as modern Fortran, Python, and/or C++.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • MS degree in Aerospace Engineering with a concentration in orbital mechanics and 5-10 years of spacecraft and cislunar trajectory design experience is desired.
  • Lunar lander trajectory design experience is desired.
  • Expertise in spacecraft trajectory optimization, including use of software tools such as Copernicus, GMAT, MONTE, STK, or FreeFlyer, is desired.
  • Experience with spacecraft guidance, navigation, and control algorithms and software is desired.
  • Experience with deep space NASA missions is desired.
  • Familiarity with NASA organizations, processes, and procedures including NASA Systems Engineering Standards such as the NASA Systems Engineering Handbook, NASA Procedural Requirements NPR 7123, and NASA Space Flight Program and Project Management Handbook NPR 7120 is desired.
  • Experience working with NASA launch services providers is desired.
  • Experience with NASA deep space mission systems engineering, including coordinating system requirements verification and validation between multiple organizations and centers, is desired.
  • Experience with deep space and/or human-rated space flight is desired.
