Job description

Job Summary

The Domestic Logistics Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating the movement of domestic freight to a wide range of end users, ensuring shipments are delivered in a timely, cost-effective, and compliant manner. This role oversees transportation planning, carrier management, and shipment execution while maintaining compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies.

The position negotiates carrier rates, schedules transportation, monitors carrier performance, and supports outbound logistics operations. The coordinator also performs freight invoice audits to ensure accuracy of transportation charges and alignment with negotiated rates.

Additionally, the role supports internal operational processes including order modifications, cancellations, and administrative or operational projects as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Transportation Coordination

  • Coordinate domestic freight movements to a wide variety of end users using contract carriers and internal fleet resources where applicable.
  • Schedule and manage transportation for all outbound shipments not serviced by company fleet operations.
  • Arrange pickup and delivery appointments with carriers, customers, and warehouses.
  • Monitor shipments to ensure on-time pickup and delivery performance.
  • Confirm shipment completion and delivery status with carriers and customers, as needed.
  • Modify orders in the Warehouse Management System (WMS) & the Transportation Management System (TMS) based on updates from Customer Service or operations teams.
  • Negotiate freight rates with carriers to secure competitive pricing without compromising service quality.
  • Monitor and track freight costs on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and support transportation budget control.

Freight Invoice Auditing

  • Audit all invoices related to domestic freight shipments to verify rate accuracy, accessorial charges, and billing compliance with negotiated contracts.
  • Identify and resolve billing discrepancies with carriers and internal accounting teams.
  • Ensure transportation invoices match shipment records, contracted rates, and approved charges.
  • Support freight cost analysis and reporting through accurate invoice validation.

Carrier Performance & Reporting

  • Track and analyze carrier performance metrics including:
    • On-time pickup and delivery
    • Freight damage incidents
    • Customer complaints
    • Service reliability

Operational Support

  • Assist with order reconciliation and inventory adjustments.
  • Provide backup support for the Transportation Manager when required.
  • Participate in operational meetings including safety meetings, production meetings, and departmental meetings.
  • Inform management of any transportation issues, service disruptions, or operational complications.

Special Projects

  • Participate in logistics, operational improvement, or transportation optimization projects.
  • Perform additional transportation-related duties as assigned by management.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Employee may be required to work remotely and/or after hours or weekends as needed.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred, OR

  • Ability to read and interpret business documents, transportation contracts, and government regulations.
