Job description

Primary Purpose: 

To manage the student life cycle and day-to-day program administration in the Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc) program at the Edwards School of Business. This position will also assist with initiatives within the Accounting Department when required.

Nature of Work: 

Reporting to the Director, Professional Accounting Programs, this individual works closely with a diverse population and builds working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including prospective and current MPAcc students at Edwards School of Business, alumni, faculty and staff, College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, Student Enrollment Services Division, undergraduate students, and other University and business communities. The position is a student-centered, customer service-oriented environment, subject to competing interests, multiple projects and continual deadlines.  This position is subject to constant internal and external deadlines and shifting priorities.  Discretionary decision-making and a high level of accuracy is required. This person gives presentations to prospective and current students. Some provincial and national travel will be expected. 

Accountabilities:

  • Provides guidance and assistance to the Director regarding student progress, prospective student applications, and implementation of policies, procedures, guidelines and unique or exceptional circumstances to ensure consistency and quality within graduate program administration
  • Continually enhances understanding of international credentialing systems and the credibility of other universities to protect the integrity of the Edwards graduate programs through the students admitted.
  • Provides program and admission information and individual assistance to prospective students (Canadian and International) and admitted students engaged in the admission/enrollment process, promoting interest in the programs, ensuring a timely and high level of service to promote a positive relationship and professionally represent the program.
  • Supports the admission objectives of Edwards MPAcc program by managing admissions, including monitoring applications, reviewing credentials, evaluating transcripts, assessing eligibility and making admission decisions.
  • Ensure the needs of the applicants are being met, by effectively organizing workflow and identifying process improvements.
  • Effectively liaising with the CGPS and Student Enrollment and Services Division to monitor changes in admission policies and procedures and to ensure the successful transition of applicants to registrants.
  • Continuously monitors student progress and programs of study to ensure timely action is undertaken and prepares student progress documentation as required.
  • Collaborate with Edwards graduate programs office and promotions support areas to ensure program and student needs are addressed.
  • Work with the Director in managing day-to-day operations and program administration, including student registration, class building and class maintenance and operation logistics.
  • Ensures the timely entry and reporting of final grades
  • Monitor student progress towards convocation and make recommendations for convocation.
  • Event management and logistics coordination for initiatives of the Accounting Centre and Department of Accounting, including but not limited to Welcome to the Major, Accounting Bootcamp, and Community Volunteer Income Tax Program.
  • Assists with general event management for programs such as catering, venue booking, preparation and assembly of material for registration and orientation, including student handbooks and bio books.
  • Program support with respect to teaching administration, ie. group creation, hiring and managing of T.A.'s and markers, etc.
  • Works with the Associate Dean Research, Graduate Programs, and Faculty Relations to assist with all aspects of managing research initiatives within the Edwards Accounting Department.
  • Additional responsibilities as required

Qualifications:

Education:

An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline is preferred, however an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Experience: 

  • A minimum of three years directly related experience, preferably at a post-secondary institution. Demonstrated expertise in student recruitment, enrolment management, marketing and/or management is essential.
  • Experience working collaboratively with various constituents, and knowledge and appreciation of academic administrative policies and procedures including the use of the University of Saskatchewan Student Information System.
  • Familiarity with technologies and systems used in post-secondary institutions are highly valued
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Proven ability to work independently, collaboratively and as an effective team member and to build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers;
