Job description

General Description:  Responsible for supporting all logistical operations in an efficient and safe manner by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintaining accurate paperwork
  • Filing shipping and receiving records
  • Recording inventory movements
  • Updating spreadsheets and tracking logs
  • Verifying all documentation before submission
  • Ensuring no material moves without documentation
  • Review incoming deliveries
  • Review scheduled shipments
  • Maintain shipping schedule
  • Verify inventory
  • Keep warehouse organized
  • Maintain staging areas
  • Support production with material availability

Receiving

  • Receive all incoming steel, hardware, consumables, and purchased materials
  • Verify quantities, dimensions, heat numbers (when applicable), and condition against:

o    Packing slips

o    Purchase Orders

o    Bills of Lading

  • Inspect shipments for damage or shortages
  • Photograph damaged or questionable deliveries before unloading when necessary
  • Clearly identify and tag all received material
  • Ensure all material is staged in designated locations
  • Immediately report discrepancies to Purchasing and Operations
  • Maintain organized receiving documentation

Shipping

  • Verify all outbound material against:

o    Shop drawings

o    Pick lists

o    Shipping paperwork

o    Customer requirements

  • Ensure correct quantities, piece marks, and job numbers are loaded
  • Inspect material prior to shipment
  • Prepare and complete Bills of Lading
  • Coordinate freight pickups with carriers and customers
  • Confirm all loads are secure and comply with DOT requirements
  • Maintain shipping logs and shipment records

 

Required Knowledge and Skill Sets:

•  Excellent oral and written communications skills

•  Attention to detail

•  Capable of operating a forklift

•  Ability to prioritize multiple tasks

•  Good interpersonal skills, phone manners, and the ability to work with others

•  Basic reading and mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)

•  Mechanical aptitude  

•  Good organizational, planning, and time management skills           

•  Excellent computer skills: comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Word

•  Must have valid driver’s license 

 

Education/Experience:

As a steel service center and distributor of hot-rolled prime and non-prime steel plate, Eddie Kane Steel sells on- and off-gauge, pattern and non-pattern plate sizes, ranging in thickness from 3/16 to 8 inches. Eddie Kane Steel maintains a diverse inventory of prime and non-prime steel plate and, for its strategic customer partners, stock inventory of custom-made parts. Value-added products include OEM parts, counterweights, and steel burn outs for diverse industries, including the waste industry, general building construction, transportation, agricultural and industrial equipment, drilling, theatrical stage, and elevator industries.
Eddie Kane Steel’s flagship processing facility in Ohio (180,000 square-foot warehouse and production plant) has a crane capacity up to 100 tons and has full rail access. The North Carolina and California facilities are also fully served by rail.
Eddie Kane Steel’s processing capabilities include high-definition plasma and oxy-fuel flame cutting, shearing, bending, drilling, punching, welding, beveling, Blanchard grinding, stress relieving, and light machining. With two plasma burning machines (including high-definition plasma machines), plate thicknesses up to 14 inches can be cut. Our oxy-fuel cutting capabilities include several multi-torch multi-head machines with several hundred feet of cutting surface. Through close partnerships with vendors offering proven high-quality workmanship, we provide services such as painting and coating, stamping, embossing, slitting, sawing, turning, annealing, leveling, and pressing.
