JOB SUMMARY
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 275 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
The CSIS Wadhwani AI Center seeks to answer vitally important questions about the future of Artificial Intelligence and its implications for the global economy and international security.
CSIS' Wadhwani AI Center is hiring a motivated intern with a demonstrated interest in the future of emerging technologies for the fall and winter semester. Internships are seasonal and are offered for the duration of six months. The Wadhwani AI Center produces research, analysis, and recommendations to equip policymakers, government officials, and the public with a better understanding of rapidly evolving emerging technology ecosystems and their impacts on the global economy, geopolitical dynamics, and international security. Interns work closely with Wadhwani Center team members in research, event management, and program communications. Candidates should be motivated, professional, and have a strong interest in emerging technology issues, especially relating to AI.
The program is looking to hire an intern for a September 2026 start date. The intern is expected to work five days a week, Monday through Friday, for a total of 35 hours/week. The position will be predominantly in-person with some flexibility for remote working. The hired candidate will be paid hourly, commensurate with experience: ($18.40/hour for current undergraduate hires, $19.40/hour for hires with a Bachelor's degree, and $20.40/hour for hires with a Master's degree). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide research support for individual scholars and projects related to AI, emerging technology regulation, industrial policy, national security, and geopolitics.
  • Monitor ongoing developments in emerging technology policy and industry.
  • Provide logistical support to the Center staff as needed, including scheduling, event staffing, and routine office work.
  • Support communications activities, including social media, program newsletter, and The AI Policy Podcast.
  • Attend events and lectures by CSIS and external organizations.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must be at least a college junior in good standing, an advanced student, or a recent graduate. Applicants enrolled in or have recently completed a master's degree preferred.
  • Must be able to work in-person at CSIS headquarters in Washington, DC.
  • 6-month internship duration required.
  • Ability to commit 35 hours per week.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to complete projects independently and with a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects & priorities simultaneously.
  • Foreign language proficiency and technical computer skills are a plus.
