JOB TITLE: Logistics Assistant (Suppression)
Full-time, non-exempt position
Pay rate: 28.00/hr (after probation)
WORK LOCATION:
16003 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77083
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Logistics Assistant is responsible for supporting the Logistics Division in the distribution and inventory control of gear, uniform, supplies, and equipment assigned to department members.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The Logistics Assistant reports directly to the Logistics Captain.
WORK HOURS:
Must work a minimum of 30 hours/week. Flexible scheduling, up to 48 hours per week, as approved by the Logistics Captain to maximize availability and support the needs of the Department and its members.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Organize and inventory the department's large volume of gear, supplies, and equipment.
  2. Distribute gear, uniforms, and equipment to members as needed and upon request.
  3. Maintain accurate records for gear, equipment, and supplies.
  4. Procure and maintain necessary gear and uniform inventory levels in a constant state of readiness to serve the community and members' needs.
  5. Assist Logistics Captain with other projects as needed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  1. Ability to develop, implement, and manage an inventory control system
  2. Ability to organize and fulfill numerous requests within 2 business days
  3. Possess a customer-first philosophy
  4. Work well independently and in a team environment
  5. Communicate well with others
  6. Ability to apply critical thinking skills and develop effective solutions to logistical problems
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and able to quickly adapt to new software applications

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Knowledge of:
    1. Fire service operations and Chain of Command
    2. Fire equipment and related NFPA standards
    3. Inventory Supply Systems
  2. Experience:
    1. Minimum of three (3) years of active service with a fire department
    2. Experience in procurement and inventory control systems
  3. Communication Skills:
    1. Strong interpersonal skills for daily interactions with vendors, visitors, department members, and officers.
    2. Proficient in communicating via multiple methods - face-to-face, phone, and e-mail.
    3. Ability to accomplish job responsibilities while still maintaining a positive, professional work environment with vendors and department members.

Pay Range: $27 - $28 per hour
