Job description

DEFINITION:
Tutors assist teacher(s) in supporting and preparing students for success in high school, college, and into careers by providing the necessary competencies needed for 21st century learners.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher tutors will:
  • Determine from student notes and discussions, the concepts that need to be taught or re-taught.
  • Evaluate student binders, including planners/agendas, class and textbook notes, etc.
  • Become familiar with the textbooks and materials used by NBECHS students.
  • Conduct Collaborative Study Group sessions in all content areas
  • Conduct mini-lessons in the process of writing in all subject areas, study skills, and other aspects of college preparation.
  • Conduct mini-lessons to reinforce math concepts that students need extra help with.
  • Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for students to follow.
  • Work with students in any phase of the writing process, such as brainstorming, clustering, revision, and editing.
  • Communicate frequently and honestly with teacher(s) regarding student progress and areas of concern.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be a college student with at least a minimum 2.5 G.P.A.
  • Must have a strong math, science, and English background, evidenced by college transcript uploaded with the application.
  • Preference given to applicants with exceptionally strong science and math backgrounds.
  • Preference given to applicants with 50 or more college credits earned.

This is a non-bargaining unit position. This position is contingent upon annual funding.
