What is a localization project manager?

Localization Project Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the adaptation of products, content, or services to meet the language and cultural requirements of different markets. They coordinate teams of translators, editors, and technical specialists to ensure that localization projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the desired quality standards. Their role also involves managing project timelines, budgets, communication between stakeholders, and quality assurance processes throughout the localization lifecycle.

What are some typical challenges a localization project manager faces when coordinating multilingual projects?

A Localization Project Manager often encounters challenges such as managing tight deadlines across multiple time zones, ensuring consistent quality and terminology across languages, and aligning expectations between clients, translators, and internal teams. Communication is key, as the role requires bridging cultural and linguistic gaps while monitoring progress on several projects simultaneously. Effective use of localization tools, clear workflows, and strong collaboration skills are essential to overcoming these challenges and delivering projects on time and within budget.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a localization project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Localization Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, fluency in at least one foreign language, and knowledge of localization processes, often supported by a degree in linguistics, translation, or a related field. Familiarity with translation management systems (TMS), CAT tools, and quality assurance software is typically required. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities are crucial for coordinating teams and managing client expectations. These competencies ensure efficient project delivery, high-quality localized content, and successful cross-cultural communication.

Job description

THE ROLE
The Production Coordinator is a key role in our high-quality production of creative assets (including synopses, title cards, and artwork), ensuring zero-friction flow from queue management to seamless delivery. Positioned at the heart of our operations, you manage creative output -- from copy, to design, to AV -- through complex workflows, global resources, and automated systems, with unwavering quality standards.
You are the first line of defense against delays and communication breakdowns. This role demands a tech and data-smart mindset and the ability to thrive in real-time, high-stakes environments. You juggle competing priorities under pressure while maintaining the clear communication necessary to keep global teams aligned. You don't just move tasks - you challenge, think ahead and identify opportunities for streamlining, ensuring our evergreen service delivery remains efficient, agile, and scalable. You bring sharp eye for detail, a process-first mindset, and the drive to learn fast and deliver consistently in a high-velocity production environment.
Scope of duties
  • Service-led communication with clients and global resources, ensuring total alignment on project status. Exercise expert judgment on communication channels (Slack, Email, Jira) to keep internal and external messaging targeted, streamlined, and noise-free.
  • Maintain oversight of workflow stages, identifying and dissolving bottlenecks before they impact delivery. Coordinate seamless hand-offs across "follow-the-sun" timezones to optimize 24h throughput. Act as the bridge between in-country and in-house teams, clearly communicating priorities and urgencies.
  • Act as the key point of contact for technical, asset, or scope queries, diagnosing and resolving issues with speed. Document recurring issues to inform long-term workflow optimizations for the Production Manager.
  • Perform rigorous in-platform checks to validate asset specifications, localization accuracy, and metadata completeness. Maintain rigorous data hygiene, ensuring every Jira ticket is the single source of truth with real-time metadata updates.
