Job description

Job Title: CDL Driver
Full Time/Non-Exempt
Location: Pomona, CA
Reports To: Branch Manager

This position requires overnight stays at least two times per week.
Duties Include:
  • Check shipping papers to determine the nature of the freight and the possible presents of hazardous material. When hazardous materials are present, comply with applicable Hazmat regulations found in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations Handbook, Hazardous Materials Compliance Manual, and Emergency Response Guidebook.
  • Inspect tractor-trailer or truck for defects and safe operation before, during, and after each trip and submit a Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) on the condition of the vehicle after each day. Do not operate unsafe equipment.
  • Ensure freight is loaded in compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) and secure from movement while in transit.
  • Drive vehicle to destination in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations using driving and maneuvering skills to safely control the vehicle at varying speeds and conditions, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather, and tight or congested situations.
  • Ensure all shipping documents are available for inspection, accompany the shipment when delivered, and sign as necessary.
  • Assist in the loading and/or unloading of products as required.
  • Maintain records required for compliance with federal and state regulations such as driver logs, mileage records, and records of fuel purchase, and any other records required by regulations or the R.E.Michel Company.
  • Maintain necessary contact with your Regional or Branch Manager to report breakdowns, weather or traffic conditions, or other emergencies that may affect delivery schedules.
  • On a regular basis or as scheduling permits, may help the inside branches/warehouses out.
  • Other Duties Assigned.
Requirements Include:
  • Driver must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or Class B with Hazmat endorsement and current Medical Certification in accordance with FMCSR.
  • Must have successfully completed an accredited driver training school with a minimum of one year of verifiable experience or have a minimum of two years of verifiable experience.
  • Computer skills are sufficient to enter the required information on electronic records.
  • Must be able to read and interpret road signs, maps, and written directions or instructions.
