The U-Mix production facility annually produces more than 2 million individual bags of construction materials and distributes them to home improvement stores and wholesale distribution centers throughout Nebraska and western Iowa.

Job Summary

U-Mix Products Company is looking for a high performing, reliable Tractor Trailer Driver to join our team. This person safely operates a flatbed truck with semi-trailer combination to transport bagged concrete, masonry mixes, and varied types of product on pallets to various customer locations, and jobsites. Payloads may consist of various commodities, may be mixed, and may have several drops/stops per load.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Abides by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.

Performs a daily pre and post-trip safety check on equipment and the truck to assure a safe vehicle. Documents any maintenance that may be required per company policy. Maintains service intervals for power unit and trailer. Maintains log sheet and fuel records (and other paperwork) to maintain compliance with government regulations. May be required to hook and unhook the trailer from the truck occasionally.

Responsible for paperwork, i.e. be sure all shipping bills are turned in to plant personnel and/or dispatch accurately and in a timely fashion as required by company policy and regulations.

Maintains a clean driving record and operate the company vehicle in a safe and courteous manner. Follows all Company policies regarding safetyโ€”traffic laws, cell phone usage, texting, non-smoking, etc.

Places truck in position to load at U-Mix plant, and at Reimers-Kaufman or other vendors as required. Follows guidelines and instructions by plant or yard crews. Responsible for strapping, &/or securing trailer in designated and safe manner.

Drives truck to designated location or site for unloading. Positions truck for unloading. Follows direction from plant, yard, or customer personnel.

At the destination site, remove straps and securing. Unloads using the boom or truck mounted forklift in the area requested by the customer. May unload by hand if necessary, according to company safety policies and procedures.

Must be able to cooperate with dispatch regarding starting times, variable workload and shift ending times, while maintaining compliance with DOT regulations.

Will be required to perform other duties as assigned, i.e. light maintenance, housekeeping duties at the plant or at RK in Lincoln.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and
  • one year previous commercial truck driving experience; or
  • an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid NE Commercial Driver's License - Class A minimum
  • Forklift certification will need to be obtained within 30 days of hire date.
Other Qualifications
  • Must meet the Department of Transportation (DOT) physical requirements and carry a physical exam card.
  • Must be able to distinguish between safe and unsafe unloading conditions; loading and unloading conditions may be on pavement or off-road, conditions may will be varied i.e. hot, cold, windy, etc.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule during busy season, including late or irregular hours.
  • Must understand and maintain the internal and external customer service responsibilities of the position.
