What are local shuttle drivers?

Local shuttle drivers are professional drivers responsible for transporting passengers short distances within a specific area, such as between airports, hotels, campuses, or event venues. Their primary duties include operating shuttle vehicles safely, assisting passengers with boarding and luggage, and maintaining schedules. They often serve as the first point of contact for travelers, providing customer service and information about the local area. Shuttle drivers must hold a valid driver’s license and sometimes a commercial driver’s license (CDL), depending on the vehicle size and regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Local Shuttle Driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Local Shuttle Driver, you need a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), a clean driving record, and knowledge of local traffic laws and routes. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, fleet management software, and vehicle inspection procedures is typically required. Excellent customer service, punctuality, and strong communication skills help build trust with passengers and ensure a smooth experience. These skills and qualities are vital for ensuring passenger safety, maintaining schedules, and providing reliable transportation services.

What are some common challenges faced by local shuttle drivers, and how can they be addressed?

Local shuttle drivers often encounter challenges such as navigating heavy traffic, maintaining punctual schedules, and ensuring passenger safety and comfort. To address these, drivers typically rely on real-time traffic updates, strong communication skills, and adherence to company safety protocols. Building familiarity with local routes and having a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance can also help reduce stress and improve service quality. Working closely with dispatchers and other drivers can foster a supportive team environment for troubleshooting route or schedule issues.

Job description

We are looking for a friendly, reliable Shuttle Driver to join our service team. In this role, you serve as the face of the dealership on the road - providing courtesy transportation to customers whose vehicles are being serviced, and ensuring every interaction reflects our commitment to an exceptional customer experience.
By working at a Ford dealership, you can be a part of a brand that honors the past, and is invested in the future.
Responsibilities
  • Safely transport customers to and from their home, workplace, or other destinations while their vehicle is being serviced
  • Greet customers warmly and assist them in entering and exiting the shuttle vehicle
  • Coordinate with the service department and dispatcher to stay on schedule and adapt to route changes
  • Maintain a trip log including passenger names, pick-up points, and destinations
  • Communicate with the service manager or dispatcher regarding any maintenance needs for the shuttle vehicle
  • Keep the shuttle vehicle clean, fueled, and in good working order
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor as a representative of the dealership
  • Assist with other service department tasks - such as moving vehicles on the lot or light administrative duties - when not actively running routes

Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Must be willing to submit to a Motor Vehicle Report background check
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of local roads, traffic patterns, and GPS navigation
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Punctual, reliable, and self-motivated
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow all traffic laws and safety procedures
  • Prior shuttle, transportation, or customer-facing experience a plus

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. We value diversity and are committed to fostering an inclusive environment for all employees. Discrimination of any kind is not tolerated, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds to apply.
