Local shuttle drivers are professional drivers responsible for transporting passengers short distances within a specific area, such as between airports, hotels, campuses, or event venues. Their primary duties include operating shuttle vehicles safely, assisting passengers with boarding and luggage, and maintaining schedules. They often serve as the first point of contact for travelers, providing customer service and information about the local area. Shuttle drivers must hold a valid driver’s license and sometimes a commercial driver’s license (CDL), depending on the vehicle size and regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Local Shuttle Driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Local Shuttle Driver, you need a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), a clean driving record, and knowledge of local traffic laws and routes. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, fleet management software, and vehicle inspection procedures is typically required. Excellent customer service, punctuality, and strong communication skills help build trust with passengers and ensure a smooth experience. These skills and qualities are vital for ensuring passenger safety, maintaining schedules, and providing reliable transportation services.

What are some common challenges faced by local shuttle drivers, and how can they be addressed?

Local shuttle drivers often encounter challenges such as navigating heavy traffic, maintaining punctual schedules, and ensuring passenger safety and comfort. To address these, drivers typically rely on real-time traffic updates, strong communication skills, and adherence to company safety protocols. Building familiarity with local routes and having a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance can also help reduce stress and improve service quality. Working closely with dispatchers and other drivers can foster a supportive team environment for troubleshooting route or schedule issues.

Job description

Position Overview

We are looking for a reliable, safety-first, and physically active Local Class A CDL Driver to handle a combined Yard Hostler and Shuttle operation in the Phoenix area. This is a vital role where precision, timing, and a sharp focus on safety keep our plant running seamlessly.

If you prefer a fast-paced role that keeps you moving and physically active rather than sitting in a cab for hours on end, this is the perfect opportunity. You will be home daily, working a night shift, and managing local shuttle runs alongside yard jockeying.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
  • Local Shuttle Runs: Transport trailers from the bakery to the Distribution Center (DC)-a quick, efficient 7-mile run between facilities.
  • Yard Hostling: Handle yard jockeying and asset management across both the bakery and DC locations.
  • Cargo Security: Ensure all trailers are properly sealed and secured before shuttling. This is a high-priority task to prevent plant shutdowns and operational delays.
  • Physical Unloading: Safely unload lift-gate trailers loaded with bread stacks and wheeled trays/carts at transit points.
  • Operational Flexibility: Help out with local delivery runs if bakery shuttle tasks are completed early in the shift.
What We Offer (Benefits & Perks)
  • Home Daily: Enjoy a stable, predictable routine with dedicated night-time driving shifts.
  • Consistent Pay: Dependable weekly income featuring steady hourly wages combined with per-stop unloading bonuses.
  • Full Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance packages plus company perks.
  • Career Growth: Opportunities to secure preferred days off as you gain seniority with the account.
  • Onsite Convenience: Dedicated personal vehicle parking and onsite tractor parking provided.
  • Supportive Culture: Work with an incredibly supportive customer base and management team.
Job Requirements
  • License: Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 months of verifiable Class A CDL experience within the past 12 months.
  • Location: Must live within a 40-mile radius of Phoenix, AZ.
  • Physical Ability: Comfortable performing daily physical labor, including operating lift-gates and handling wheeled bread carts/stacks.
  • Safety & Punctuality: A strong track record of defensive driving, safety compliance, and on-time execution.
Employment Type: FULL_TIME
