What are Local Servers?

Local servers are computers or systems that provide services, data, or resources to other computers within a localized network, such as a home, office, or organization. Unlike remote servers hosted on the internet, local servers are physically located on-site and managed by the organization or individual. They are commonly used for file storage, application hosting, network management, and security purposes. Using a local server can improve speed, enhance data privacy, and provide more control over resources compared to relying solely on cloud-based services.

How does a Local Server coordinate with the kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure a smooth dining experience?

As a Local Server, effective communication with both the kitchen and front-of-house teams is crucial to delivering a seamless dining experience. Servers are responsible for accurately relaying guest orders to the kitchen and promptly following up on any special dietary requests or changes. They also work closely with hosts, bussers, and bartenders to ensure tables are set, drinks are served in a timely manner, and any guest concerns are addressed quickly. This collaborative approach helps minimize errors, reduces wait times, and enhances overall customer satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Local Server, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Local Server in the food and beverage industry, you need strong customer service abilities, basic math skills, and knowledge of food safety standards, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems and, in some jurisdictions, food handler certifications are typically required. Excellent communication, multitasking, and teamwork are crucial soft skills for providing a positive dining experience and handling busy shifts. These skills ensure efficient service, customer satisfaction, and smooth restaurant operations.

Job description

Where: Ted's Bulletin One Loudoun
20416 Exchange Street
Ashburn, VA 20147

Description

Ted's Bulletin is seeking Servers to join our opening team at our newest location at One Loudoun in Ashburn, VA.

Ted's Bulletin is well-known for Ted's tarts, boozy milkshakes and all-day breakfasts (which are all pretty great), but we're also much more than that. We run a scratch kitchen using fresh ingredients prepared onsite, offering a carefully curated menu of craveable American cuisine. We've recently enhanced our menu with the introduction of lighter fare, while retaining the classic items that our regulars have come to know and love. We have exciting plans for continued development of the brand from a culinary perspective (and beyond), and now's a great time to jump on board!

We're looking for an experienced Server to join our team. You'll be an expert at building rapport with guests, driving sales and providing an exceptional hospitality experience.

Our people are what make us different from other restaurants. We value our team members, because they are what cause our guests to return. Our management team is supportive, while also holding each other accountable. We hold ourselves to high standards, but also like to have fun. We treat our team members well, believe in a good quality of life, and recognize hard work.

In addition to a strong culture and a fantastic team, we offer competitive pay and a progressive and expanding range of benefits.

Ted's Bulletin is an Equal Opportunity employer.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have at least 6 months' experience in a high-volume, upscale casual dining or equivalent service environment. Previous server experience is even better!

In addition, you'll need:

  • to be able to stand and walk for up to 10 hours per day, and be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
  • the ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
  • to be able to accurately perform basic mathematical calculations
  • to be of legal age to prepare, serve, and ring alcoholic beverages
  • to work flexible shifts and schedules, inclusive of weekends, and some holidays
  • to be certified in (or able to be certified in) responsible alcohol service (as required by state or local law)
  • high energy and stamina, and the ability to communicate effectively with guests and team members
  • a high school diploma (or equivalent)
