Your Opportunity
Stantec is currently seeking a Regulatory Specialist with the Ability to Perform GIS Services to provide technical support on a variety of tasks within a team focused on renewable energy projects. This position will be part of Stantec's Environmental Services team that provides the full range of expertise needed to address a variety of permitting and approval requirements. Our staff members have established excellent working relationships with public agencies throughout the mid-Atlantic, and our regulatory knowledge and scientific expertise allow us to help our clients develop the most effective approach to securing approvals.
Key Responsibilities
  • Access various online databases containing environmental information and create GIS graphics displaying the information
  • Complete desktop reviews of the above and any other available information to determine environmental constraints
  • Draft summary memorandum detailing the results of the desktop review
  • Develop submittals for any agency required review and/or permitting tasks
  • Develop submittals related to local land use permitting
  • Coordinate permitting for railroad and utility crossings
  • Occasionally attend public meetings in support of projects which will require interaction with public officials and local residents
  • Communicate (written and orally) and collaborate with the project team to provide task updates and ensure consistency in project execution

Qualifications
General Capabilities and Credentials
  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently and take initiative
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite (specifically Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to learn and adapt to multiple tasks and processes quickly in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent technical writing
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail
  • Support and ensure implementation of Stantec's Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSE professionals during the execution of all phases of project planning and implementation
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and clients

GIS Capabilities
  • Ability to create maps and perform a wide range of geospatial analyses in support of environmental field studies and permitting of environmental impacts, as well as local land use and state construction approvals
  • Ability to adhere to established cartographic standards and quality assurance/ quality control processes
  • Ability to manage a wide variety of project specific and reference geospatial data in accordance with defined data management standards
  • Ability to support geospatial field data collection efforts. Typical collected features include wetlands, waterways, and rare, threatened, or endangered species occurrences or habitats
  • Ability to collaborate with existing GIS staff members working in various Stantec offices

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field with demonstrated GIS training or course work
  • 0-3 Years of Experience
  • Previous experience in environmental permitting and/or providing GIS services in support of environmental projects preferred but not required
