Job description

This class assists the County Attorney with multiple legal issues, providing legal analysis and advice to the Board of County Commissioners and County's Administrative staff; researches and drafts legal documents; represents the County in a variety of judicial and administrative proceedings; and supervises support staff.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Provides legal advice and analysis to internal staff and Boards on a variety of local government, real estate, employment, workers' compensation, public records, and/or other related legal issues, which includes interpreting and applying statutes, case law, ordinances, and administrative regulations
Drafts a variety of legal documents, which may include: contracts, deeds, resolutions, policy recommendations, legal correspondence, and/or other legal documents
Represents the County at judicial, appellate, and administrative hearings; litigates cases in applicable courts
May serve as a closing agent for real estate transactions
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Training and Experience:
Juris Doctorate and at least two years of experience in contract drafting, editing and transactional work, local government law, and/or litigation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licenses and Certifications:
Member in good standing of the Florida Bar Association
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics (KSAOs):
applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes
judicial rules of practice and procedure
legal research methods
using a computer and related software applications
conducting legal research
preparing legal documents
speaking in public
communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

County-wide Employee Responsibilities:

Emergency Management Responsibilities:
During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity, and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits mostof the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
