Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director, Northern Florida/Alabama, Government & Community Affairs (“GCA”), District 2, this role has responsibility for local governmental policy and advocacy matters for Northern Alabama. This person will assist in developing and implementing city legislative strategies, monitors ordinances, and assists in facilitation of state and local government-facing business initiatives. This role will coordinate with the state lead on state and local membership organizations. Assists with corporate initiatives and works with state GCA to coordinate community affairs activities.

Job Description

CORE RESPONSIBLITIES:  

  • Assist in developing and implementing city government advocacy strategies, monitoring ordinances, and local government affairs activities.  

  • Assist in building strategies and tactics to effectively advocate company priorities at all levels of local government. 

  • Develop and maintain relationships with government representatives and regulators at the local level. Travel to attend meetings, hearings, or other events to represent the company. 

  • Negotiate franchise agreements and rights of way agreements with local government municipalities as well as solving challenges related to franchise and permitting issues. 

  • Monitor local legislative activity affecting Comcast NBCUniversal business interests. Work closely with the HQ Shared Services Policy team to review ordinances and receive policy direction from subject matter experts. Execute advocacy strategies and tactics based on the company’s policy guidance. 

  • Assist in facilitation of state and local government-facing business initiatives.    

  • Provide guidance and support at all management levels to ensure consistent and sound local government policy and enhance communication with local officials at all levels of government. 

  • Assist in coordination with the Senior Director on all franchising activities across the state. 

  • Assist with the resolution of complex and/or difficult franchise renewals, franchise transfers, and franchise non-compliance issues. 

  • Assist with corporate initiatives and work with state GCA to coordinate community affairs activities. 

  • Develop relationships on behalf of Comcast with local and regional power providers.   

  • Develop relationships on behalf of Comcast with coalition and industry trade associations and regional and local Chambers of Commerce.   

  • Other duties as assigned. 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Familiarity with key areas of technology and/or telecommunications policy. 

  • Progressively responsible experience in government affairs related disciplines working with city councils, mayors, legislators, government agencies, political campaigns, or associations with recent experience. 

  • Strong team player and willingness to assist department in various tasks. 

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities and possess good organization skills. 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and represent Comcast in a positive, professional manner. 

  • Ability to build relationships as well as work collaboratively to build consensus and positive buy-in/support for initiatives. 

  • Strong presentation and communication skills, able to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization both in written and oral form. 

  • Proven project management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 

  • Exceptional time management and strong eye for detail. 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Travel required: 25-30% 

EDUCATION LEVEL: Bachelor’s degree.   

YEARS EXPERIENCE: 5+ years related experience.
