Description

Under the direction of the Warehouse Manager responsible for transporting products to or from customers and suppliers. The Delivery Driver will be responsible for pick-ups and deliveries of products within the local commuting distance of the facility. This position requires the driver to load and unload cargo. The driver is responsible for verifying loads, picking up material, and delivering them as instructed. The driver is also responsible for verifying and completeness of paperwork, complying with all safe workplace practices, policies, and processes. The truck size ranges from 12' - 24' and can be described as a light or medium-duty truck with a 3,100 - 8,000 load-rated capacity.

Requirements

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for loading, transporting, and delivering products in a safe and timely manner. Ensures the load matches the order before and after delivery.


  • Prepares truck for operation by inspecting general condition; checking fluid levels and tire pressure; obtaining or scheduling required repairs; validating adherence to road-ability standards.
  • Required to work a flexible shift that may involve early morning, evening hours as well as Weekends.
  • Required to move or re-arrange bins or pallets by using a pallet jack (manual or electric). Secures items to ensure there is no damage during transit; will assist the unloading of product at customer locations.
  • Picks up or delivers products by following the pre-established routes; routines, unloading and loading of the product; maintaining a strict schedule without independent deviation.
  • Ensures the safe operation of equipment and vehicle by completing preventive maintenance requirements, troubleshooting, and calling for repairs when required.
  • Maintains safety checks, safe operations, and clean appearance by complying with the Company's operational policies, procedures, and standards as well as federal, state, and local driving rules and regulations; cleans truck exterior and interior.
  • Produces and maintains paperwork related to deliveries and paperwork such as driver logs and time sheets.
  • Verifies shipping instructions and other special delivery information, as needed.
  • May help support truck loading and off-loading process- lifting, using a manual lift or forklift, as needed.
  • Follows scheduled delivery schedules to optimize trucking and transportation related costs.
  • Demonstrates key product knowledge of F&S Fresh Foods Transportation systems strategies and will be entrusted to use diligence and care of products and truck operations.
  • Regularly interacts with cross-functional team representatives and other departments to resolve issues with management and in support of shipping and/or receiving exceptions.
  • Builds strong working relationships with internal and external customers as needed.
  • Escalates difficult matters to the Manager and keeps them abreast of all issues.
  • Performs other duties as needed.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma required or equivalent.
  • Valid Class C driving license.
  • Clean MVR (no accidents in the past 3 years), No DUI in the past 5 years.
  • Ability to safely pass a driving test and operate a 2-axle vehicle with a GVWR of 26,000 pounds or less or a 3-axle vehicle weighing 6,000 pounds gross or less
  • 3 years of previous related Truck driving experience.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical, including a drug and alcohol screening.
  • Ability to work a flexible shift that may include early morning, evening, and Weekends, as required.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state trucking regulations.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES. The individual shall possess:

  • Ability to speak, read, and write including the ability to communicate work directions and issues in a clear, professional manner in English; fluency Spanish is helpful
  • Working knowledge of current (or similar) transportation operations
  • Ability to operate manual and electric pallet jacks
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to apply logical thinking and exercise sound judgment while driving.


WORK DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this Job it is primarily sedentary while driving, but can require frequent standing, walking, lifting, twisting when working in a chilled factory or warehouse environment. Required to sit for periodic and prolonged periods while operating a truck. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, lift or feel. May be exposed periodically to chilled or warm temperatures within the operations or exposed to the elements when in an open dock environment.
