What is a local delivery?

Local delivery jobs involve transporting goods, packages, or food within a specific geographic area, usually within the same city or town. Workers in these positions typically use vehicles like cars, vans, bikes, or scooters to pick up items from businesses or warehouses and deliver them directly to customers' homes or offices. This type of job is common in industries such as retail, food service, and logistics. Local delivery jobs often offer flexible schedules and can be either full-time or part-time positions.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a local delivery driver?

To thrive as a Local Delivery Driver, you need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and good knowledge of local routes and traffic laws. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, route planning apps, and sometimes handheld scanners or delivery management software is often required. Strong time management, customer service skills, and reliability are essential soft skills for interacting with clients and meeting delivery deadlines. These abilities ensure safe, efficient deliveries and positive customer experiences, which are crucial for success in this role.

What are common challenges faced by local delivery drivers and how can they be addressed?

Local delivery drivers often encounter challenges such as navigating traffic congestion, managing tight delivery schedules, and handling unexpected delays due to weather or road conditions. Staying organized, using route optimization apps, and maintaining clear communication with dispatchers and customers can help address these issues. Additionally, being familiar with the local area and practicing good time management are key to ensuring timely deliveries and maintaining customer satisfaction.

What is the difference between Local Delivery vs Courier?

AspectLocal DeliveryCourier

Work EnvironmentLocal routes, delivery vans, often within a city or townVaried environments, including local, regional, or international deliveries
Employer & IndustryRetail, food services, e-commerce companiesLogistics, courier services, postal companies

Both Local Delivery and Courier roles involve transporting goods, but Local Delivery typically focuses on short, city-based routes for businesses like restaurants or retail stores. Couriers may handle a broader range of deliveries, including urgent or international shipments. While credentials and work environments overlap, couriers often require more specialized certifications for handling sensitive or international packages. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find the right role based on their skills and career goals.

How do I become a local delivery?

To become a local delivery driver, you typically need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and a reliable vehicle. Some companies may require a background check and proof of insurance, and having good navigation skills can help improve efficiency in delivery routes.

Job description

Overview

Intuit is seeking highly motivated individuals to join our dynamic team as dedicated year-round TurboTax Local Service Experts in one of our new TurboTax locations across the United States. This unique opportunity combines tax expertise, entrepreneurial spirit, and community engagement to help customers navigate their tax needs. As a TurboTax - Local Service Expert, you will serve as a trusted advisor, empowering customers to achieve positive financial outcomes while supporting Intuit’s mission of “Powering Prosperity Around the World.”

About the Role: In this role, you will work on-site from a TurboTax location as part of a collaborative team of financial experts, serving in-person and virtual customers who use Intuit TurboTax products.

Your primary focus will be full-service tax return preparation, providing expert tax advice, calculations, and software support, but your responsibility extends beyond that. You will be the connective tissue between your customers and a broader team of specialists covering business tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, financial planning, and advisory services. This is not a hand-off model. You will sit in the same customer meetings, absorb the same context, and build a shared understanding of each customer's complete financial picture, then work in lock-step with the right experts to deliver a seamless, end-to-end Intuit experience.

Your ability to understand each customer's unique situation and connect with them on a personal level is critical. Taxes can be stressful, and your presence as a trusted, knowledgeable guide makes all the difference whether you're helping with a straightforward W-2 filing, navigating a major life event like marriage, a new child, or elder care, or tackling more complex scenarios involving business income, investments, or amendments.

Additionally, you will play a key role in growing TurboTax’s client base within the local community, attracting new clients, establishing long-term relationships, and driving customer loyalty. You will leverage TurboTax marketing support and software to empower you in building a thriving business that fosters prosperity for both you and your community.

This role is nonexempt and requires onsite presence at a TurboTax location in the United States.

What You’ll Do:

Provide Tax Expertise - Give hands-on tax advice and complete preparation services for TurboTax clients, handling simple to complex tax situations (e.g., personal and business income, deductions optimization, amendments). Facilitate discovery sessions and tax reviews to uncover deductions, minimize tax liabilities, maximize refunds, and provide future tax planning advice. Utilize resources such as government websites, professional tools, and team expertise to deliver accurate tax solutions in personalized everyday language.

Be a Proactive Community Ambassador - Embody a “community ambassador” and “business owner” mindset to actively build and grow a new local customer base for TurboTax. As a primary driver of local growth, you will own your market — identifying and pursuing prospects through targeted outreach, grass-roots marketing initiatives, referral networks, and community partnerships. Serve as the local face of TurboTax, converting new prospects into loyal, long-term clients. Organize and lead local events such as financial literacy workshops, community pop-ups, and networking gatherings with the support of TurboTax marketing tools and resources, to create consistent opportunities for customer engagement and brand awareness.

Champion the Full Intuit Ecosystem - Act as a trusted guide for every client by developing a deep understanding of their complete financial picture and connecting them with the Intuit solutions best positioned to move them forward. As you build relationships through tax engagements and collaborative client meetings, identify opportunities to introduce clients to complementary services such as bookkeeping, payroll, financial planning, or Credit Karma that meaningfully address their needs. Your role is not simply to deliver a service, but to ensure every client leaves with a clearer path and the full weight of Intuit's resources behind them for year-round support.

Build Relationships - Connect with people, demonstrate understanding and sensitivity to their financial concerns and build the long-term trust that turns a one-time transaction into a loyal, multi-year relationship.

Deliver a Best in Class Customer Experience - Create an exceptional customer experience, professionalism, and genuine interest in helping clients achieve their financial goals (e.g., saving for retirement, college funds, weddings, or vacations). - Interact with customers both in-person and through Intuit’s state-of-the-art video communication tools. Address client inquiries while helping them overcome tax-related challenges.

What You Get: As a TurboTax - Local Service Expert, you’ll receive access to exceptional company benefits and resources, including:

401(k) Savings Plan with company matching, paid sick time, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, E&O Insurance provided by Intuit, Employee Assistance Program

discounts on Intuit products including a free copy of TurboTax, ongoing collaboration opportunities with TurboTax’s network of growth-minded professionals and marketing support
