Next-generation solutions for the U.S. Armed Forces
Job Summary:
The CNC Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machinery and equipment within a manufacturing or production environment. This role involves leading a team of maintenance technicians, ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of CNC machines, and implementing preventive maintenance programs.
Location: Lapeer, MI
Essential Functions:
  • Lead, mentor, and manage Maintenance Department.
  • Coordinate and prioritize work assignment schedules to ensure efficient operations by supervising the troubleshooting and repairs of CNC mills, lathes, 5-axis machines, grinders, EDMs, and support equipment.
  • Collaborate with external vendors for sourcing spare parts and implementing upgrades.
  • Coordinate with Production, Quality, and Engineering to plan downtime windows for repairs and upgrades, and during improvement projects, new machining installations and all upgrades relating to machine production.
  • Oversee root-cause analysis for repeat failures, scrap-driving issues, and unplanned downtime.
  • Ensure proper use of OEM manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
  • Approve and monitor machine parameter changes, axis alignments, ball-bar tests, vibration analysis', spindle evaluations and controls, and control updates.
  • Ensure all repairs meet aerospace/defense traceability and documentation requirements, as well as OSHA, ISO, AS9100 and customer requirements.
  • Oversee the completion of tasks and maintain records of calibrations, inspections, PM logs, machine history files, and repair traceability
  • Lead safety investigations, near-miss reviews, and corrective actions that involve maintenance and machining.
  • Supervise/escort/host external technicians, OEM service providers, and contractors working on CNC equipment or facility systems, ensuring they follow company visitors' policy and standards.
  • Obtain and review service quotes, negotiate pricing, and verify completion of contracted work.
  • Oversee spare-parts inventory, critical spares strategy, reorder points, work orders and purchase orders for Maintenance and maintenance-related production needs.
  • Track machine lifecycle data and recommends rebuilding, retrofits, or replacements.
  • Ensure proper storage and control of lubricants, coolants, and maintenance consumables.
  • Support Engineering during new machine installations, process changes, and equipment validations.
  • Lead initiatives to reduce unplanned downtime, improve MTBF/MTTR, and increase machine availability.
  • Ensure technicians follow proper revision control for procedures and work instructions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Assign work, monitor performance, and hold employees accountable to productivity and safety standards.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and disciplined work environment.
  • Direct, schedule, coach, and supervise all maintenance technicians (mechanical, electrical, CNC, facilities).
  • Oversee the management of plant-level Environmental Management processes and procedures. Ensure hazardous waste, coolant disposal, and chemical handling follow environmental regulations.
  • Communicate machine status', risks, and downtime impacts to leadership.
  • Oversee Maintenance Department onboarding tasks, skills assessments, cross-training, and ongoing technical development.
  • Manage performance reviews, corrective actions, and adherence to any and all company policies.
  • Routine audits and routine maintenance as assigned.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and skill development within the maintenance team.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and military specifications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to quality, safety, comradery and continuous improvement.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field, recommended.
  • Minimum 5 years of CNC maintenance experience in a leadership role, preferably in military defense or aerospace manufacturing
  • Minimum 3 years of proven experience in CNC machinery maintenance and repair.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Background Prerequisites:
Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks, physical, and controlled substance testing.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications in Mechatronics, CNC Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, ball screws, spindles and CNC controls
  • Experience in Aerospace & Defense manufacturing
  • Experience with PLEX or other (QMS) Quality Management Systems

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Primarily manufacturing floor environment with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and varying temperatures.
