Job description

Job Title: Food Bank Associate

Prepared By: Human Resources

Department: Food Bank

Reports To: Food Bank Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, part-time 16 hrs. per week

Compensation: $22.00 per hour


Summary: Provides general Food Bank assistance including but not limited to food and clothing sorting, stocking, repackaging, maintenance and guest assistance. Provides back-up support to the Food Supervisor.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.


  • Interacts with donors, volunteers, and SVdP employees in a courteous, welcoming, and appropriate manner.
  • Data entry of Food Bank Clients as they enter the food bank.
  • Trains volunteers in appropriate food handling and safety measures.
  • Supports the Food Bank Supervisor & Food Bank Manager with the coordination of food orders, food purchases, supply purchases,
  • Supports Food Bank Supervisor in coordinating event set-up and tear-down.
  • Responsible for sorting /distribution of miscellaneous donations, and preparation of other foods.
  • Ensures food supplies are fresh and safe for guest consumption
  • Coordinates proper set up and breakdown of Food Bank equipment, materials, and supplies on open operation days.
  • Loads and unloads food and clothing donations, and other materials.
  • Ensures clothing and clothing supplies are provided to the Clothing Bank.
  • Works closely with volunteers in food recovery and food repackaging efforts
  • Operates forklifts and hand trucks safely and follows safety policies and procedures
  • Drives Box Truck to pick up food from donating vendors
  • Maintains all equipment in good operating order
  • Maintains, cleans, organizes refrigerators and freezers, and notifies supervisor when services or repairs are necessary.
  • Keeps loading dock and interior and exterior areas clean and safe.
  • Organizational skills must be good at visual/spatial relationships that optimize storage space.
  • Works with the proper attitude that exemplifies the Society’s Statement of Values
