Job Title

Western Sand & Gravel, a NEBCO Company, mines aggregates along the Platte River near Ashland, Louisville, and Fremont, Nebraska. Concrete aggregate makes up 70 percent of the mines' product.

Job Summary

This position will perform various support tasks at the Ashland sites and will be the primary back-up for Loader Operator and perform all associated functions when required. Based on weather conditions, the position is year-round position; however, there may be times when work is limited. The job is typically a 12-hour shift, and during busy season the position may be required to work 5 to 6 days a week. Western Sand & Gravel is currently offering a $2500.00 Hiring Bonus!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, and turns steering wheel or joy-stick to operate loader.

Moves levers to lower and tilt bucket and drives front end loader forward to force bucket into bulk material.

Moves levers to raise and tilt bucket when filled, drives vehicle to work site, and moves levers to dump material.

Provide repairs and support services for a gravel pit operation by doing general labor work, mechanical work, rebuilding pumps and various maintenance work that may be required.

Performs routine maintenance on loader such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning.

Assures safe operation of equipment.

Performs tasks such as mowing and cleanup of work areas, operating water truck, and other related tasks.

Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience

High school education preferred; and previous heavy equipment experience with some manual labor on plant equipment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must also be mechanically and physically inclined to provide mechanical and maintenance skills to the gravel pit operation.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Able to work long or irregular hours when required during busy season.
