Job description

Material Handling Equipment Operator

The Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Operator sorts, routes and loads cargo to and from truck and chutes. The individual is responsible for operating material handling equipment safely and may also support general warehouse operations.

A MHE Operator must work with other Operators to effectively meet or exceed expectations for quality and operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations. Efficiently stack and store the material in the appropriate areas.
  • Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage.
  • Efficiently move product from staging and/or storage areas into trailers.
  • Load, unload, move, stack, and stage product and materials using a forklift. Maintain the facility's equipment and materials in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion. On a daily basis, inspect the forklift or other equipment. Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area. Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse. Conduct operations in a manner that promotes safety. Comply with OSHA and SDS Standards as well as 5S principals.

Requirements:

  • Be able to read, write and speak fluent English
  • High school diploma
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Warehouse and transportation experience.
  • MHE operations
  • Good verbal and oral communication.
  • Occasionally move push/pull and/or lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Standing up to 10 hours at a time.
  • Extensive periods of walking
  • Work is performed in a low noise, well maintained environment.
  • In-house, on the job training at initial hiring to insure all related job requirements will be met. Also, refresher training required at least every three years per OSHA standard. Additionally, refresher training required after any accident / incident involving material handling equipment.
  • Able to make clear and accurate decisions.
  • Able to conform to all established procedures and work activities.
  • Able to communicate well verbally and in writing with employees and management as needed.
  • Able to function with minimum supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to interface and communicate with people effectively.
