Job description

Chemical Loader

Chemical loaders at this site are responsible for the safe and efficient loading and unloading of liquid hazardous materials into railcars and trucks while following all company and customer procedures.

Job Requirements & Qualifications
  • Must follow all OSHA safety standards and be safety conscious.
  • Must possess and maintain an active Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card and valid Driver's License with reliable means of transportation to and from work.
  • Must be 18 years of age and legally able to work in the US
  • Demonstrated stable work history with positive references from previous employers, indicating reliability and competence.
  • Successfully pass drug screening test as well as physical and background check.
Essential Job Functions
  • Ensure that railcars and/or trucks are correctly positioned and secured at the loading rack before initiating the transfer process. Check the last product contained in the vehicle for compatibility with the current loading operation.
  • Conduct a visual inspection of the railcar and/or truck to identify any defects or mechanical issues that may pose safety hazards or regulatory non-compliance. Ensure that the vehicle is safe to load before proceeding.
  • Wear all the required protective clothing and equipment, including respirators and fresh air equipment, as necessary to ensure personal safety during the product transfer process.
  • Connect loading equipment and transfers according to established procedures, utilizing gauges, automated systems, or strapping tables as applicable.
  • Monitor the weight of the product before and after transfer to ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) certification requirements. Prevent outages or innages from exceeding specified limits.
  • Maintain open communication with site leaders or supervisors, promptly reporting any problems or issues encountered during the loading process.
  • Safely disconnect loading equipment from the railcar and/or truck upon completion of the transfer. Inspect for any leaks or abnormalities and complete all required paperwork before releasing the vehicle.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the site leader or supervisor, contributing to the efficient and safe operation of the loading facility.

  • Full time, hourly, Non-exempt with potential opportunities for advancement

Physical Requirements
  • Fluent in English, including speaking, writing, reading, and listening comprehension, to effectively communicate and understand job-related instructions and information.
  • Be comfortable working outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold.
  • Wear all the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) without restriction and pass any medical examination associated with the use of PPE.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds from the floor to waist level.
  • Capability to push and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds horizontally.
  • Capacity to carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds while walking.
  • Ability to walk between 2 to 10 miles per day as needed for job tasks.
  • Capability to stand for extended periods, ranging from 4 to 8 hours per day.
  • Proficiency in climbing stairs and ladders as required for job duties.
  • Skill to support oneself on a ladder with two feet and one arm extended for up to five minutes.
  • Capability to extend arms through a normal range of motion while standing and squatting.
