Job description

Sandy Pine is a multigenerational, family-owned farming operation based in Nebraska. We specialize in producing the highest quality pigs for our customers around the country and transport them all over the world. We are made up of multiple farm locations, all strategically located to provide our pigs with the safest and healthiest environment. Because of this commitment to excellence, we provide the highest quality swine genetics in the industry.
This position is located in Ainsworth, Nebraska.
Job Summary:
The position is responsible for the safe and efficient transfer and delivery of livestock (pigs) through the use of a truck and trailer by loading and unloading at company facilities and finishing barns.
Job Description:

  • Operate a truck/trailer combination to transport livestock.
  • Verify livestock count, weight and help with loading and unloading of animals.
  • Transfer livestock between company facilities and finishing barns based on animal movement requirements.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections on truck and trailer to ensure safe transport of animals, including post-trip inspections.
  • Ensure all paperwork and documentation is accurate and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Maintain proper communication with dispatch to ensure no problems are encountered with pick-up and drop-off of livestock.
  • Follow all safety, regulatory and road law requirements with truck, trailer and livestock movement.
  • Adhere to Transport Quality Assurance (TQA) program requirements for the handling and transport of pigs, including the potential impacts those actions have on the animals well-being and pork quality.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on truck and trailer to ensure cleanliness, including power wash and disinfectant.
  • Responsible for following biosecurity standards and herd health policies, which includes mandatory showering and changing into farm clothes prior to entering the farm, having no contact with other swine, and adhering to down-time requirements as established by PIC (Pig Improvement Company).
  • Perform other maintenance duties as determined by manager.
Job Requirements:
  • 1-2 years of related work experience.
  • Prior experience driving and operating a truck and trailer; CDL Class A with air brake endorsement preferred, and live haul experience a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting and resolution skills with knowledge of production machines and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide resolution and follow-up to meet needs of facility.
  • Working knowledge with machinery and mechanical processes, with ability to operate machinery.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work independent and collaboratively, and ability to apply independent thinking and judgement to provide resolution.
  • Proper disposal of waste such as recyclables, standard waste, hazardous waste, etc. is expected.
  • Ability to work in conditions with varying temperatures, loud noise, odiferous and dust.
  • Ability to perform the required functions of the job, including physical demands like lifting/moving over 55 pounds, actively walking/standing for long periods of time on concrete floors, bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing and visual requirements to close, distance and color objects. Ability to operate high power pressure washing equipment.
  • Transport Quality Assurance (TQA) certification required within 90 days of employment (company provided).
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record. No DUI within last 5 years.
  • Willingness to take on additional duties as assigned by management.
