Our organization is looking for a Surgical Director of Liver Transplant to join our esteemed abdominal transplant program, which is recognized nationally. This full-time academic position will primarily be based at our main facility, IU Health University Hospital. As part of our team, you will receive a competitive salary and an academic rank that reflects your experience.
This leadership opportunity is perfect for an abdominal transplant surgeon dedicated to clinical excellence, program enhancement, and academic growth. The new Surgical Director will collaborate with a team of eight transplant surgeons, six advanced practice providers, and five committed support staff members.
Department OverviewThe Department of Surgery at our institution is dedicated to nurturing exceptional surgical clinicians. We focus on imparting the skills, knowledge, and competencies necessary for delivering high-quality care to residents throughout Indiana and beyond. Position Highlights- Lead the Liver Transplant Program, ensuring clinical quality, program expansion, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Conduct a wide range of abdominal transplant surgeries, particularly focusing on liver and intestine transplants.
- Engage in organ procurement and complex hepatobiliary surgical procedures.
- Participate in a shared call schedule, with one week of call per month and designated weeks/weekends off.

Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic and clinical leadership as the Surgical Director of Liver Transplant.
- Perform liver transplant surgeries.
- Experience in living donor transplantation, intestine and multivisceral transplant, and robotic transplant surgery is highly desirable.
- Conduct inpatient rounds, manage outpatient clinics, and oversee perioperative care.
- Participate in organ procurement activities.
- Collaborate with transplant hepatology, anesthesia, critical care, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Support program quality, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Teach and mentor trainees throughout their academic journey.
- Contribute to research, publications, and academic growth.
- MD/DO or equivalent degree.
- Board-eligible or board-certified in Surgery.
- Completion of an ASTS-accredited transplant surgery fellowship (mandatory).
- Eligibility for medical licensure in Indiana.
- Experience in abdominal transplant surgery is essential.
