Live sound engineers are audio professionals responsible for managing and controlling sound during live events such as concerts, theater performances, and conferences. They set up, operate, and maintain the sound equipment to ensure clear and balanced audio for both the audience and performers. Their duties often include mixing audio in real time, troubleshooting technical issues, and collaborating closely with artists and event staff. Live sound engineers play a crucial role in creating a high-quality audio experience at live venues.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live sound engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live Sound Engineer, you need a solid understanding of audio engineering principles, acoustics, and signal flow, often supported by a degree or certification in audio technology. Familiarity with mixing consoles, digital audio workstations (DAWs), microphones, and sound system setup is essential. WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE IN THIS POSITION:
  • Work on custom customer opportunities (e.g., data centers, energy storage, emerging technologies) where you'll develop custom electrical enclosure solutions-not just quote standard products.
  • Partner directly with Business Development Managers and Sales to tackle technical challenges and help win strategic deals across the Systems Protection portfolio.
  • Own the technical side of the quoting process-reviewing customer specs, creating electrical designs, and building tailored solutions that meet performance, code, and application requirements.
  • Design electrical and mechanical systems including one-line diagrams, interconnects, wire sizing, and equipment selection for customized enclosure solutions.
  • Collaborate with outside sales, plant engineers, design teams, and manufacturing sites to translate concepts into manufacturable, compliant solutions.
  • Play a critical role in balancingspeed, accuracy, and cost-ensuring quotes are delivered on time while designing solutions that are technically sound, financially competitive, and aligned with customer and business needs.
  • Review and validate designs (yours and others') for code compliance, quality, and alignment with customer specifications.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of quoting, design, and sales support processes within a highly visible, senior-level team (QRF - Quote Reaction Force).
YOU HAVE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) preferred. Relevant experience considered.
  • Experience designing electrical systems (e.g., one-line diagrams, wiring, equipment sizing) in commercial or industrial applications.
  • Experience interpreting customer specifications, codes, and standards (NEC or similar) and applying them to real-world designs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment where solutions are often custom-not predefined.
  • Strong communicator who actively engages in meetings with sales, manufacturing, and customers-translating technical concepts, sharing perspectives, and influencing decisions.
  • Experience reviewing technical designs or supporting others on specifications, code compliance, and industry standards.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to bridge technical engineering concepts to business and customer needs, adapting your approach for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with AutoCAD required, experience with Oracle preferred.

WE HAVE:

  • A dynamic global reach with diverse operations around the world that will stretch your abilities, provide plentiful career opportunities, and allow you to make an impact every day
