Job description

JOB TITLE: Supervisor, Radiation Protection 
REQUISITION: NUC00FI
DEPARTMENT: Radiation Protection
LOCATION: Wolf Creek/ Olive Ann Beech
PAY RANGE: 15D - $106,00 - $141,300

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position organizes, plans and directs activities for all aspects of radiation protection to ensure Wolf Creek Generating Station is maintained and operated safely, reliably, and cost competitively.
This position is responsible and accountable for all aspects of the Radiation Protection division including RP Operations, ALARA, Calibrations, Training, Radwaste, Dosimetry and Corrective Action.      

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides leadership and guidance for setting high standards related to Radiation Protection functions that include ALARA, RP Operations, Dosimetry, Radwaste and Training.
Observe work activities to identify and correct behaviors associated with RP fundamentals that may be adverse to the safe, accurate and timely completion of work activities.
Ensures the Radiation Protection group supports a safe and efficient outage execution.
Ensures the procedures used by the radiation protection group are controlled and in compliance with the USAR, Technical Specification requirements and regulatory requirements.
Ensures that Radiation Protection personnel are properly trained and qualified as described in the USAR.
Accountable for ensuring personnel are protected from radiation hazards.
Review Radiation Protection procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements is met.
Ensuring that the Radiation Protection training program contains high standards and that personnel attend training as required.
Provide input to capital and O&M budgets and ensure that good cost control techniques are used in the Radiation Protection group. 
Actively support and participate in the ERO.
Fill in for the Manager Radiation Protection when required.
Provides continuous improvement through the use of corrective action, self-assessment and other programs.  Develops and monitors performance indicators to gauge performance and improvement.  
Drives continuous improvement in human performance for the division.
Performs other duties as directed by management.
 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Regulatory Requirement: Tech Spec 5.3.1 [ANSI/ANS 3.1-1978] (underlined words are defined in referenced ANSI standard).  Please contact Licensing prior to deviating from these requirements or if you have questions.
The Supervisor Health Physics shall have a high school diploma or equivalent, and five years of experience in health physics. 


ADDITIONAL WCNOC REQUIREMENTS:
Job requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and five years of related technical (Health Physics) experience of which one year must be at a nuclear power plant; or a BS, BA or Associates degree in a related science field and four years of related technical (Radiation Protection) experience of which one year must be at a nuclear power plant.  The candidate must have good oral and written communication skills.  Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance, and the ability to be accountable as well as hold others accountable to Radiation Programs and processes.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
NRRPT certification is recommended but not required.

Must complete First-Line Supervisor Job Familiarization Guide within 18 months.

This position is responsible for the protection of personnel from radiation hazards This position is responsible for radiation protection of the plant 24/7 and will fill in for the Manager Radiation Protection, when requested.
