How much do live in jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 24, 2026, the average yearly pay for live in in Nova Scotia is $39,547.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $33,000.00 and $49,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a live in?

A Live-In job typically refers to a position where an employee resides at their workplace, often in a private household or care facility. Common roles include caregivers, nannies, housekeepers, or companions who provide support and services in exchange for accommodation and salary. Live-In employees usually have scheduled working hours but may also offer on-call assistance as needed. The arrangement allows for a close, continuous level of service while providing the employee with a place to live. Specific duties, compensation, and time off vary depending on the employer's agreement.

What are the typical daily routines and responsibilities for a live in?

A Live In role typically involves a mix of caregiving or household duties, such as assisting with personal care, preparing meals, light housekeeping, and sometimes providing transportation or companionship. Your schedule may vary depending on the needs of the household, but you can expect to be available for tasks throughout the day, with agreed-upon breaks and personal time. Flexibility is important, as routines can change due to medical appointments, school activities, or other family needs. Many Live In positions offer the opportunity to form meaningful connections with those you care for while gaining valuable experience in home management and personal support.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the live in position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In (such as a live-in caregiver, nanny, or housekeeper), you need hands-on experience in caregiving, household management, and possibly childcare or eldercare, often with references or relevant training. Familiarity with communication tools (such as mobile devices) and, in some roles, first aid or CPR certifications are commonly required. Compassion, reliability, flexibility, and strong interpersonal skills will help you build trust with the household and adapt to varying needs. These abilities are crucial for maintaining a safe, supportive, and smoothly running living environment for the individuals or families you support.

Are you a kind-hearted and dedicated individual looking for a truly impactful role where you can make a profound difference in someone's life? At Earth Angels Home Care, we've been helping seniors and others in Nova Scotia thrive in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes for over 20 years. We're incredibly passionate about providing skilled, compassionate, ethical, and confidential care, and it's our wonderful Angels who make that possible.

We are currently seeking dedicated and compassionate Live-In Home Care Assistants to join our team throughout Nova Scotia. If you're ready to build deep, meaningful connections, offer consistent support, and truly become an integral part of a client's daily life, we'd love to hear from you.

What It Means to Be a Live-In Earth Angel:

As a Live-In Home Care Assistant, you'll provide continuous, comprehensive support for the non-medical needs of our clients within their own homes, following an established Plan of Care. Your primary responsibility is to be a constant, reassuring presence, remaining in the client's home at all times during your dedicated shift rotation to ensure their safety, comfort, and well-being.

Your essential role will include:

  • Holistic Daily Support: Providing essential assistance with activities of daily living, such as supervising, feeding, and dressing the client.
  • Personalized Care: Assisting with personal care tasks like showering, sponge baths, toileting, grooming, and hygiene, always with dignity and respect.
  • Specialized Care: Offering vital respite care for families and specialized support for clients living with dementia.
  • Companionship & Engagement: Being a trusted companion, ensuring our clients feel cared for, valued, and never alone.
  • Household & Errands: Lending a hand with essential errands (like grocery shopping or accompanying to medical appointments) and homemaking services, including light housekeeping, laundry, meal planning, and preparation to maintain a comfortable home.
  • Health Monitoring: Carefully monitoring medications as per the Plan of Care and accurately reporting/documenting all care notes.
  • Maintaining a Safe Environment: Performing routine housekeeping tasks like vacuuming and dusting to keep the living space clean and safe.

A commitment to live in the client's home for a minimum of 2-week shift rotations is essential for this role, providing consistent and invaluable support.

Why You'll Love Being Part of the Earth Angels Family:

We understand that you're looking for more than just a job you're looking for a place where you're appreciated, valued, and genuinely supported. That's why we offer:

  • Competitive Wages: Earn starting at $16.75 per hour, with pay based on your experience, education, and/or certifications, plus opportunities for overtime pay.
  • Truly Flexible Schedules: We offer 2-week shift rotations and are flexible to accommodate preferences, including night shifts, helping you find a schedule that fits your life.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: A robust package including Dental Care, Extended Health Care, Vision Care, and an Employee Assistance Program to support your overall well-being.
  • Paid Training Programs: We'll invest in you, providing paid training to enhance your skills and confidence in specialized areas.
  • Supportive Environment: You'll be part of a supervised work environment where you are genuinely valued and never alone in your important work.
  • Meaningful Connections: Opportunities for building deep, lasting relationships while providing consistent, high-quality care to our clients.
  • Travel Reimbursement: Transportation costs are reimbursed for travel to client locations.
We're Looking for Someone Who:
  • Has excellent communication skills and a truly compassionate approach.
  • Holds a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel to client locations.
  • Possesses current CPR & First Aid Certification.
  • Can pass a clear criminal background check for the safety and trust of everyone.
  • Is ready and able to live in a client's home for dedicated 2-week shift rotations throughout Nova Scotia.

Ready to open your heart and become an integral part of our compassionate team, making a profound difference in the lives of clients across Nova Scotia? Apply today and become an Earth Angel!
