Job description

Job Summary - About the Role
Deliver high quality recreation services for residents, visitors and the St. Charles community by adhering to the District's safety and administrative policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
This position is well suited for someone with a friendly and positive personality who is productive and shows initiative, is an effective written and oral communicator, is reliable and safety-minded.
Required: High school diploma required. Current Personal Training certification or similar wellness-based nationally accredited certification required (ex. ACE, NASM, ACSM, etc). Must maintain good health and appearance. Advanced knowledge and understanding of proper exercise techniques and equipment usage. The Wellness Coach must have the ability to effectively educate and demonstrate to members these techniques and usage. The Wellness Coach must also have excellent oral communication skills and good customer service skills. Evidence of continuing education courses directly related to the field. Maintain Mandated Reporter and First Aid/CPR/AED certification or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
Preferred: College degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or Exercise Physiology preferred, Prefer work experience in a fitness related field and previous personal training and/or group fitness instruction experience.
Essential Functions of the Position
Park District Cornerstones
  • Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District's safety and risk management program.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
  • Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
  • Comply with Park District policies and administrative procedures.

Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Recreation, and the Assistant Superintendent of Recreation - Norris Recreation Center, and the Membership Services Supervisor, the Wellness Coach shall complete all assigned duties to the best of their abilities, offering suggestions of better ways to accomplish jobs and be ever mindful of the best interests of the St. Charles Park District and of fellow employees. This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to:
  • Work cooperatively and harmoniously with the general public, cooperating agencies and fellow employees.
  • Provide information and assistance to fellow employees.
  • Maintain professional attitude and appearance.
  • Demonstrate safe work habits through the use of the established safety program guidelines including maintaining First Aid, CPR and AED certifications.
  • Represent the district positively and ethically to patrons, guests and employees.
  • Provide safe and effective Wellness Coaching sessions.
  • Provide enjoyable, but challenging Wellness Coaching sessions.
  • Instruct clients on proper exercise techniques and modifications.
  • Instruct clients on proper usage of resistance and cardiovascular equipment.
  • Develop a proper exercise plan based on the client's needs and goals.
  • Be prepared in advance for all Wellness Coaching sessions.
  • Track and maintain accurate records of clients' Wellness Coaching sessions.
  • Ensure that clients pay for Wellness Coaching sessions.
  • Teach clients to appreciate their physical, emotional, and social health.
  • Teach clients proper components of a healthy lifestyle.
  • Inform clients of proper facility conduct.
  • Help clients achieve their health and fitness goals.
  • Help to maintain equipment in a safe and working order.
  • Maintain current certifications.
  • Comply with organizational, departmental and divisional policies and procedures.
  • Complete necessary forms for accidents and incidents.
  • Attend all employee meetings and training sessions.
  • Assist in promotional activities and facility special events.

Marginal Functions of the Position
  • Assist with special projects, as assigned.
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Set up and take down rooms for programs and rentals.
  • Develop and instruct fee-based fitness programming.
