Job description

Are you ready to be the first to tell people the news each day? To get up early and be a part of the dynamic team at CHCH-TV? We are looking for a creative, energetic, innovative news reporter for our flagship program, Morning Live, one of the leading morning shows in the GTHA and the unquestioned market leader in the Golden Horseshoe. CHCH-TV is one of Canada's leading local heritage stations with a strong commitment to quality news programming serving the dynamic and rapidly growing regions of Hamilton, Halton and Niagara on multiple platforms.


We are now accepting applications for a Full-time Morning Live Reporter position scheduled regularly Monday-Friday which starts at 3:30 a.m.


The successful candidate has a hunger to be in the field to report on local news and can write on a deadline. As a member of the on-air team, our Morning Live news reporter will work closely with the co-anchors and show producers to produce multiple daily news segments and be the first to inform our viewers about what's happening in their community.


Key Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Working in concert with our news team, you will prepare, research, write, gather, and present insightful, accurate, and engaging interviews and other content

  • TV newscasts to highlight this original content, often live

  • Identify multimedia storytelling opportunities that will enhance the station's coverage and deliver content across all platforms

  • Be able to engage on air with our co-anchors and other on-air talent in impromptu discussions

  • Maintain deep knowledge of local and national news, Canadian/International politics, business, sports and entertainment

  • Regularly make social media posts about the stories on Morning Live

  • Develop story ideas for inclusion on television and across platforms

  • Develop and maintain contacts  

  • Other duties as required 


Qualifications and Skills: 

  • A broadcast journalism diploma or equivalent

  • A readiness to work varied shifts, including overnights and weekends

  • Three years experience of news reporting and hosting as an on-air news reporter in a medium/large television market preferred 

  • Practical experience working live in the field

  • Strong interviewing, writing, and editing skills

  • Possess a demonstrable history of working in various social media platforms  

  • Superior organizational, spelling, and grammar skills  

  • Readiness to work various shifts as required  

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

  • Ability to work in a live broadcast environment

  • A working knowledge of ENPS would be an asset

  • A working knowledge of VizRT would be an asset

  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record
