Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
- Applying state-of-the-art principles of design and data collection to all collaborative studies in which we participate,
- Training students to apply these principles to practice, and
- Conducting research aimed at improving the design, data collection and analysis phases of types of studies we do.
Position Summary
The Water Institute at UNC was established in 2009 within the Gillings School of Global Public Health. The Institute works to create a more water-secure world through research, policy, and practice. It serves as a platform for mobilizing knowledge and resources across UNC to address critical water and sanitation challenges domestically and globally.
The purpose of this position is to support research communication and community engagement activities for two of the UNC Water Institute's Communities of Practice (CoPs): the WASH in Healthcare Facilities (HCF) CoP and the WASH Circuit Riders (CR) CoP. These CoPs convene a global audience of approximately 1,000 practitioners, researchers, and policy actors to address critical challenges in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in clinical and healthcare facility settings, as well as the long-term sustainability of rural water systems.
The incumbent serves as the operational lead for both CoPs, coordinating approximately 18 bimonthly webinars per year, managing all communications channels, and producing knowledge products that translate technical content into accessible content for a global practitioner audience.
The position will also support other members of the Water Institute team in research and evidence-building activities related to the CoPs. Duties may include, but are not limited to, supporting data collection through qualitative interviews and focus groups, disseminating surveys and analyzing results, and compiling evidence through systematic reviews.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
- Experience conducting qualitative research using methods such as semi-structured interviews, focus groups, or content and thematic analysis
- Experience conducting or supporting systematic or scoping reviews, including developing search strategies, screening records against inclusion criteria, extracting and synthesizing data, or reporting findings consistent with PRISMA or similar guidelines
- Experience using qualitative data management software (e.g., NVivo, ATLAS.ti, Dedoose, or equivalent) to organize, code, or analyze qualitative datasets.
- Experience with survey design or analysis using Qualtrics or similar platforms for academic research or business analytics.
- Experience coordinating virtual events or webinars using Zoom or comparable platforms, including managing registration, cloud recording, or post-event archiving
