Live In Water Tester information
What is the difference between Live In Water Tester vs Water Quality Technician?
| Aspect | Live In Water Tester | Water Quality Technician |
|---|---|---|
| Certifications | Water testing certifications, possibly first aid | Water testing certifications, environmental health |
| Work Environment | On-site at water sources, residential or commercial settings | Laboratories, field sites, water treatment plants |
| Job Focus | Monitoring water quality in specific locations, often in a residential setting | Analyzing water samples, ensuring compliance with standards |
Both roles involve water testing and require similar certifications. However, Live In Water Testers typically work on-site at specific locations, often in residential or commercial environments, while Water Quality Technicians may work in labs or treatment facilities. The choice depends on whether you prefer fieldwork in a live setting or laboratory analysis.

The technician will perform routine water sampling in accordance with established procedures, contract requirements, applicable AAMI standards, and facility safety requirements.
The collected samples will be used to evaluate water quality and support the safe and uninterrupted operation of water systems serving the Sterile Processing Department.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect critical and utility water samples from designated sample ports according to the required monthly and quarterly testing schedules.
- Collect samples from point-of-use critical water, reverse-osmosis critical water, and utility water sources.
- Follow established sampling procedures and applicable ANSI/AAMI ST108 guidelines to ensure accurate and representative sample collection.
- Perform or coordinate required water quality testing for collected samples in accordance with the contract requirements.
- Accurately document sample information, including sample location/port, date, time, sample type, testing parameters, and other required information.
- Properly label, handle, preserve, package, and transport samples for laboratory analysis as required.

- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safe working conditions while performing sampling activities within the medical facility.
- Comply with all applicable facility security, safety, infection-control, PPE, and access requirements.
- Report abnormal sampling conditions, failed or out-of-range results, sampling issues, or other water-quality concerns to the designated I-2-I supervisor.
- Assist with re-testing when required due to failed or out-of-range results.
- Maintain required sampling records, field service documentation, and other project records.
- Provide timely information and documentation necessary for laboratory reports and contract deliverables.
- Support unscheduled or emergency water sampling following water interruptions, system repairs, disinfection, or other distribution-system events, when requested and authorized.
- Be available for potential on-site re-testing within the required response timeframe when results fall outside applicable AAMI standards.
