Health Care Consultant (Childcare & Summer Camp Programs)

Position Type: Part-Time / Contract / On-Call / Remote
Reports To: Executive Director / Director of Operations
Location: Manhattan, NY (Must live in NY)

Pay range: $90.00/ Hour

Active, unrestricted healthcare license (RN, NP, PA, or MD required; must meet state licensing requirements for childcare health consultant designation).


Position Summary

At Brains and Motion Education, inc. (BAM!), the Health Care Consultant serves as the designated licensed healthcare professional for the organization’s childcare and summer camp programs. This role provides oversight of health policies, supports regulatory compliance, delivers staff training, and serves as an on-call medical resource. The consultant’s active professional license will be listed on applicable state childcare and camp licensing documentation as required.

This position does not provide direct patient care but serves in an advisory and compliance capacity to ensure the health and safety of children and staff.


Key ResponsibilitiesLicensing & Regulatory Compliance
  • Serve as the licensed healthcare professional listed on state childcare and/or summer camp licenses as required.
     
  • Ensure programs comply with state and local childcare health regulations.
     
  • Review health-related documentation for licensing inspections and audits.
     
  • Advise leadership on regulatory updates affecting health and safety standards.
     
Health Policy Review & Development
  • Review and approve healthcare policies and procedures for childcare and camp settings.
     
  • Ensure protocols align with state childcare regulations and public health guidance.
     
  • Provide guidance on:
     
    • Medication administration procedures
       
    • Allergy management and EpiPen protocols
       
    • Illness exclusion policies
       
    • Communicable disease management
       
    • Emergency medical response plans
       
    • Health screenings and immunization requirements
       
Staff Training
  • Provide initial and annual training for staff on:
     
    • Medication administration
       
    • Recognition of illness and injury
       
    • Emergency response procedures
       
    • Documentation requirements
       
  • Support refresher training as needed.
     
  • Provide consultation to program directors regarding health concerns.
     
On-Call Medical Consultation
  • Be available on an on-call basis during program operation hours for health-related incidents or emergencies.
     
  • Provide guidance to site leadership during medical situations.
     
  • Review and advise on incident reports involving medical events.
     
  • Support decision-making regarding emergency escalation (e.g., EMS activation).
     

Qualifications
  • Active, unrestricted healthcare license (RN, NP, PA, or MD required; must meet state licensing requirements for childcare health consultant designation).
     
  • Experience working with children in a camp, school, or childcare setting preferred.
     
  • Knowledge of state childcare licensing regulations and health requirements.
     
  • Experience in staff training and policy development.
     

Scope of Role
  • Advisory and compliance-focused; not responsible for direct medical treatment.
     
  • Provides consultation and guidance; final operational decisions remain with program leadership.
     
  • May serve multiple program sites within the organization (based on state)
