General Manager – Humboldt Plant & Farms

The General Manager – Humboldt Plant & Farms leads end‑to‑end shellfish operations for the oyster product line across farm, processing, and transportation logistics. This leader owns results, including P&L performance, and drives safety, quality, delivery, and cost through data‑informed decisions, cross‑functional collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Key Performance Indicators (KPI)

  • Oyster Product Line & Farm Operations: Farm P&Ls; Planting vs. Budget; Harvest Volumes vs. Budget; Yields; Mortality; Quality; Harvest‑to‑Spec.
  • Processing, Wet Storage, Quality & Compliance: Processing P&Ls; Production Volumes; Yields; Cost per Unit; Quality/Credits; Order Fulfillment/OTIF.
  • Team Leadership, Development and Safety: 100% completion of performance reviews and complete/update succession/training plans annually.

Primary Duties:

  1. Oyster Product Line & Farm Operations:
    • Oversee planting, cultivation, and harvesting plans to meet volume, size, and quality specifications; supervise local teams to deliver operational results and continuous improvement.
    • Coordinate seed sourcing and handling; ensure healthy planting, nursery operations, and bed maintenance; maintain vessels, equipment, and permits in good working order.
    • Partner closely with processing to align harvest to specification and schedule; manage transportation and loading coordination to ensure uninterrupted production.
  2. Processing, Wet Storage, Quality & Compliance:
    • Oversee relevant processing operations for oyster products; develop schedules and capacity requirements to achieve shipment goals.
    • Ensure accurate and timely production reporting, including weights and lot tracing; monitor wet storage output to maximize yield and quality.
    • Implement and audit HACCP, SSOP/SQF, and sanitation standards; meet on-time delivery, quality objectives, and shipment targets; resolve process challenges as they arise.
  3. Team Leadership, Development and Safety:
    • Build and train a team of supervisors to carry out the goals and objectives of the operating group, fostering a culture of trust and high performance.
    • Ensure safety at each location, concentrating on training and safety awareness for all leaders and their teams.
    • Oversee and support team meetings with supervisors from each department to ensure alignment and effective communication.
    • Collaborate with Human Resources to implement policies that are fair and equitable, enhancing workplace culture and employee satisfaction.
    • Oversee comprehensive training programs through Pacific University, ensuring backup training for each department and adherence to company hiring and disciplinary procedures.

Supporting Duties:

OpCo Management and Strategy: Participate in weekly and period end financial reviews and strategy meetings. Review and analyze budget and financials, approving farming, cap ex, and accounts payable as needed. Collaborate with operating group leadership on yield and process improvements to enhance production efficiency and product quality. Help drive sales growth. Support management alignment through weekly meetings, collaborating on long‑term R&D with the support office and sales team, and developing professional networks in the seafood industry. Develop and foster a culture of continuous operational improvement, focusing on productivity, efficiency, yields, and expansion. In conjunction with HR, ensure hiring, screening, onboarding, and orientation processes are observed at all locations in accordance with Pacific Seafood policy. Additionally, work with regional recruiter and HR on turnover metrics, optimal staffing levels, and hiring opportunities to increase team efficiencies.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary to support the overall goals and objectives of the position.

What you bring to Pacific Seafood

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience with shellfish farming and management.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Prior experience managing a team.
  • Experience as a boat operator.
