Job Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Family and Community Medicine is seeking to hire a faculty physician in Sports Medicine. Our department is committed to continuous improvement in patient care, education, research, and service. We are actively searching for an individual who can contribute to our mission of high-quality patient care, excellence in education, and the progression of science through scholarship. Our current sports medicine team provides medical oversight for UAB Athletes (Division I), Birmingham Legion FC Professional Soccer team, Birmingham Bulls Professional Hockey, Birmingham Vulcans Rugby, USA Wheelchair Rugby, the 2022 World Games, and local high schools. Aside from direct patient care, individuals will participate in the following: Teaching within our Sports and Exercise Medicine Fellowship, residency program, and medical student curriculum Educate learners within our 12-12-12 (and growing) residency program and our Sports Medicine Fellowship Develop new Exercise Medicine programs with our YMCA, UAB Campus Recreation, Lakeshore Foundation (US Olympic and Paralympic Center), and UAB Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC), and other community partners Create robust programming in Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) and regenerative medicine Conduct research within an institution that exceeded $600 million in grant funding in FY19, and includes potential collaborators such as Precision Medicine, the Center for Exercise Medicine, Preventive Medicine, the Lakeshore Foundation, and Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC)Contribute to our expertise in Value-Based Care, Leadership in Medicine, Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS), Digital Health & Analytics, and Lifestyle & Exercise Medicine Consideration will be given to board-certified MD or DO for a full-time position. Position is a twelve-month, open rank, open tenure faculty position. Salary, rank, and tenure commensurate with experience and qualifications.
