Job Description:

Venue Kings is seeking a curious and collaborative Software Engineer - Backend and Data Integrations to join our growing technology team. You will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of our platform, with a focus on backend services, data ingestion workflows, and third-party integrations. This is an on-site role based in North Vancouver, BC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code using modern frameworks and technologies.
  • Build and maintain automated data collection and ingestion workflows using APIs, HTML parsing, browser automation, and structured data processing.
  • Evolve existing systems through incremental modernization, refactoring, improved test coverage, and deliberate technical debt reduction.
  • Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to design and deliver new features, APIs, and third-party integrations.
  • Use company-approved AI-assisted engineering tools for appropriate development tasks while protecting confidential data, reviewing output, and remaining accountable for shipped code.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and optimize system performance. Participate in code reviews and improve automated testing and documentation.

What You'll Bring:

  • 2+ years of professional software development experience involving production systems.
  • Production experience with either Go or Python, plus the ability and interest to work in both languages.
  • Experience designing and integrating APIs, services, and asynchronous backend workflows.
  • Experience building reliable automated data collection systems for publicly accessible sources, including HTML/DOM parsing, browser automation, and data normalization.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS serverless architectures, including Lambda, S3, event-driven or queue-based services, and CloudWatch.
  • Strong relational database skills, including schema design and query optimization, plus experience with caching and NoSQL data stores such as Redis and DynamoDB.
  • Experience with observability practices, including structured logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
  • Experience with Git-based workflows, automated testing, and CI/CD practices.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools for coding, testing, debugging, and documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to learn and evaluate new tools, frameworks, and technologies.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada and able to commute to our North Vancouver office.

Additional Strengths:

  • Familiarity with architecture patterns such as domain-driven design, hexagonal architecture, and event-driven design.
  • Experience with Docker and containerized applications.
  • Experience integrating AI or machine-learning capabilities into production applications.
  • Experience with high-volume data ingestion, message queues, or event-driven processing.
  • Evidence of independently developing and deploying software, including professional, open-source, or personal projects.

Benefits and Perks:

As a member of the Venue Kings team, you'll enjoy:

  • Live Events Credit: Monthly credit toward concerts, sports, and other live events.
  • Health Benefits: Employer-paid extended health coverage.
  • Flexible Work Schedule: Flexible start and end times within the role's scheduled working window.
  • Paid Time Off: Generous paid time off to support rest and work-life balance.
  • Friendly Culture: A collaborative work environment with company-sponsored events and a casual dress code.
