Job description

WCTI NewsChannel 12 and FOX Eastern Carolina are looking for a Multimedia Journalist who is passionate about storytelling and eager to make an impact in the communities we serve.
Whether you're an early-career journalist ready for your next challenge or a recent graduate looking to launch your career, we're seeking someone with strong storytelling instincts, sound news judgment, and a desire to grow in a fast-paced, multiplatform newsroom. We value strong storytelling, curiosity, and potential as much as professional experience.
This role offers the opportunity to cover breaking news, develop enterprise stories, report live in the field, and create content for broadcast, digital, social, and streaming platforms. You'll work alongside experienced journalists while building the skills and relationships that will help you grow as a storyteller.
Responsibilities
  • Report, shoot, write, and edit compelling news stories for television, digital, and social platforms.
  • Develop original story ideas that reflect the people, issues, and events shaping Eastern North Carolina.
  • Build sources and community connections that lead to impactful storytelling.
  • Deliver live reports from the field during breaking news and special coverage.
  • Create engaging content for WCTI/WYDO's website, social media channels, and other digital platforms.
  • Work independently while meeting daily deadlines and newsroom expectations.
  • Collaborate with producers, photographers, and newsroom leadership to deliver audience-focused coverage.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Strong news judgment and commitment to ethical journalism.
  • Ability to tell compelling, visually driven stories in the NPPA tradition.
  • Strong writing, shooting, editing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience with live reporting or a demonstrated ability to perform live.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.

Preferred Experience
  • Reporting experience through a professional newsroom, internship, student media organization, or comparable experience.
  • Experience with live shots and field reporting.
  • Familiarity with LiveU or similar live transmission technology is a plus.

Why WCTI/WYDO?
At WCTI and WYDO, you'll tell stories that matter while serving communities across Eastern North Carolina. You'll gain hands-on experience covering everything from breaking news and severe weather to enterprise and community-focused reporting-all while working in a newsroom committed to developing the next generation of journalists.
