Development Performance Science Intern

Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE) is an American Sports and Entertainment holding company based in Denver, Colorado. KSE is committed to providing world-class sports and entertainment for both live and broadcast audiences. We are the employer of choice as the owner and operator of Ball Arena, DICK'S Sporting Goods Park, the Paramount Theatre, 1STBANK Center, Denver Nuggets (NBA), the Colorado Avalanche (NHL), Colorado Mammoth (NLL), Colorado Rapids (MLS), KIMN, KXKL, KKSE (FM/AM), Altitude Sports & Entertainment, Major League Fishing/Fishing League Worldwide (MLFLW), Winnercomm, Outdoor Sportsman Group and SkyCam.

Nature of Work: KSE is seeking a Development Performance Science Intern to lead the day-to-day operations of the performance monitoring strategies of the Colorado Rapids 2nd team. The Development Performance Science Intern will work within the Player Health & Performance Department and is responsible for collecting, processing, analyzing and reporting athlete workload, performance and readiness data of the second team under the guidance of the First Team performance scientist. The position will work within a multidisciplinary high-performance environment and collaborate closely with medical and performance staff to support the player health, development, and on-field performance, as well as foster a data-informed decision-making culture.

Examples of work performed:

  • Lead the collection and dissemination of GPS session/game data for the second team
  • Lead all on-field live monitoring strategies
  • Conduct, manage and interpret readiness and performance testing of all second team and high-potential players (i.e. jump, strength and sprint profiling, movement screen, wellness report)
  • Ensure data hygiene and accurate record-keeping. (i.e. GPS spikes, VALD tags/trials, attendance, availability)
  • Maintain the Athlete Management System (Teamworks AMS) and all other databases of the second team with accurate, up-to-date profiles
  • Collaborate closely with the second team performance and medical staff to counsel technical coaches and inform player development, return to play, and daily on-field periodization strategies based on the data collected
  • Collaborate closely with the First Team and Academy performance and medical staff to provide training workload targets/recommendations for players moving between teams
  • Support evidence-based decision-making through applied research and literature review
  • Liaise with First Team Performance Scientist and Sr. Director of Sport & Data Science to evaluate and implement state-of-the-art technology

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

  • Typical Office Conditions & On-Field Conditions
  • Lift 50 lbs. daily, elite demonstration of exercises to the standard of a professional soccer team
  • Work in extreme weather conditions

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Sport Science, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Statistics or related field
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a professional or elite sport environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with GPS (e.g., Catapult, STATSports, PlayerData) and common sport science technology (i.e. VALD NordBoard, ForceFrame, SmartSpeed, ForceDecks)
  • Experience working with an Athlete Management System (Teamworks AMS)
  • Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS) or seeking certification
  • CPR/AED

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Sport Science, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Statistics or related field
  • Proficiency in data analysis (i.e. R, Python, SQL)
  • Experience working with event data (i.e. StatsBomb, Impect) and/or tracking data (Tracab, SkillCorner)
  • Two years of experience in a professional or elite sport environment
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
  • Ability to acquire or produce and maintain a valid driver's license and meet company vehicle driving standards.

Compensation:

  • 1099 Contract w/ base hourly rate of $19.29 with a maximum of 29 hours a week
  • Breakfast & Lunch every training day and post-match meals
