The Embedded Software Engineer forย Battery and On-board Chargeย Software will apply their knowledge of RTCA DO-178C, best practices for real-time safety-critical embedded software development, and embedded C skill set to specify, architect, design, implement and integrate the embedded software for BETA's airborne systems. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of embedded software development, from bare-metal board bring-up and understanding of microcontroller timing and execution characteristics to high-levelย software specification and design methods and techniques.ย ย 

How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:ย ย 

  • This position is primarily a software role withย requiredย ability to understand and troubleshoot hardware.ย ย 
  • Become familiar with existing software and hardware for the on-aircraftย charging systemย and battery management system. Provide support and improvements for existing hardware and software onย aircraft.ย 
  • Write system level, software, and hardware requirements for certification-intentย aircraftย charge controllerย 
  • Lead development of new and improved software and implementation/testing on the hardwareย and in theย aircraft.ย 
  • Support debugging and testing of hardware and software in a certification environmentย 
  • Work with the Ground Support Equipment (GSE) team to provide a seamless charging experience across BETA's platforms and with 3rd party EVSEsย 
  • Interface with BETA's supplier partners in chargingย 

Minimum Qualifications We areย seeking: (your Knowledge, Experience, and Abilities):ย ย 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in electrical engineering, computer science, embedded systems, or related fields.ย 
  • Experience and understanding of electrical fundamentals, switching power supplies, electrical isolation/insulation strategies.ย 
  • Ability toย operateย lab equipment including low and high-voltage power supplies, function generators, oscilloscopes, multimeters, soldering irons,ย etcย 
  • Programming skills in C, C++, and Pythonย 
  • Experience with software development and debugging for embedded systemsย 
  • Experience with version control systems (git, SVN, etc.)ย 

Above and Beyond Qualifications that will distinguish you: (preferred qualifications):ย ย 

  • Master's degree or equivalent experienceย 
  • Experience with EV charging standards:ย 
  • Experience with powerline communications using HomePlugย GreenPhyย or similar signal-over-power methods like Power over Ethernetย 
  • Experience with bare-metal embedded systemsย 
  • Experience with software development for Linux-based embedded systemsย 
  • Experience withย CMake-based build environmentsย 
  • Experience with schematic capture and printed circuit board layout. (KiCADย or Altium preferred)ย 
  • Understanding of electrical overcurrent protection coordination and high-voltage insulationย 
  • Experience with circuit simulation software, especially related to power electronics stability, line/load regulation, control system responses, etc. LTSPICE, PSPICE,ย Matlab/Simulink are a plusย 
  • In-depth knowledge of high-voltage (>800V) designs and isolation boundaries/techniques for power and signal transmissionย 
  • Experience with power distribution, high-voltage batteries, motor control, avionics, or cabin conditioning (heating, cooling, defog, de-ice) in aerospace, automotive, or similar settingย 
  • Experience designing and testing for EMI mitigation and EMCย 
  • Experience with common communication protocols including CAN, ARINC-429, RS485, SPI, I2C, UARTย 
  • Experience in a production environment in aerospace or similar industry, especially related to electronic assemblies and printed circuit boards in in Part 23 or Part 25ย aircraftย 
  • Pilot's license or an interest in flyingย 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:ย 

  • This position will be based on-site at Beta's facilities in South Burlington, Vermont.ย 
  • Ability to transport yourself to various BETA locations around Burlingtonย asย needed.ย ย
