MRF MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT

Date:  July 2026

Job Title: MRF Maintenance Assistant

Terms:  Full-time, hourly, non-exempt

Compensation:   $20.00 - $23.00 per hour

Benefits:  100% paid health insurance for the employee, life insurance, and long-term disability. (Other insurance lines available at a shared or employee cost.)  PTO and paid holidays.

Hours:  12:00 pm - 08:00 pm, Monday to Thursday / Friday 10:00 am - 06:00 pm. Later evening hours and weekends occasionally required.

Reports To: PM MRF Maintenance Manager

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Eureka Recycling's MRF Maintenance Assistance supports the MRF maintenance team. Duties and responsibilities include completing preventative maintenance and ensuring compliance with Materials Recovery Facility policies and procedures. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

Responsibilities

Clean debris off of polishing screens such as plastic bags, hoses, metal strapping, wire, and other debris that wraps around the screen shafts. 

Shovel broken glass from under conveyor belts where glass builds up around tail shafts and underbelly pans. This includes climbing in conveyor pits and shoveling out debris that builds up. The glass and debris will be shoveled into a bin to be dumped by an operator 

Grease mobile equipment and single-stream sorting equipment.

Clean and test optical sort nozzles to ensure equipment runs optimally

Aid other maintenance staff as other project needs may come up.

Comply with lock-out, tag-out procedures, and safety procedures on applicable equipment.

Use hand tools such as utility knife, side cutters, wrenches, power tools, and bolt cutters.

Responsible for understanding, following, and ensuring compliance with all employee guidelines and safety policies

Promote a safe work environment, make recommendations, and implement changes in processes, practices, and equipment that will improve safety for the organization. 

Report malfunctions and repair requirements to appropriate personnel.

Other projects as assigned.

Requirements

Physical Requirements and Environment

Ability to lift up to 35 pounds on a consistent basis and 50 pounds on an occasional basis, including the ability to lift materials by shoveling

Ability to walk up and down stairs several times per day

Must be able to stand and walk for at least 8 hours, 5 days/week

Subject to seasonal and adverse weather conditions both indoors and outdoors

Subject to noise from equipment operation. Hearing protection required.

Wear appropriate required personal protective equipment

Climb in and out of equipment; bending at the waist; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; carrying; pushing and pulling


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to follow directions and priorities in an effective and efficient manner.

Lock Out Tag out trained

Skyjack trained and certified

Knowledge of proper lifting techniques

Familiar with tools

Commitment to the environment and to working with community-based organizations and culturally diverse communities

Dedication to our mission of zero-waste

Experience with composting and recycling. 

Fluent in English or Spanish

Work will require occasional weekend and/or evening work. 


WORKING CONDITIONS

Works indoors and outdoors; subject to seasonal and adverse weather conditions.

Subject to noise from equipment operation.

May climb in and out of equipment; bending at the waist; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; carrying; pushing and pulling. 

Must have dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of buttons and levers and use of feet to control pedals on equipment.

Work will require weekend and/or evening work.
