Live In Signage Designer information

What is a live in signage designer?

A Live In Signage Designer is a professional who creates and manages visual signage within a residential or hospitality setting, often living on-site to provide immediate design updates and maintenance. Their responsibilities can include designing wayfinding systems, informational signs, and decorative elements tailored to the space's needs. They collaborate with property managers, architects, and residents to ensure the signage is functional, aesthetically pleasing, and compliant with regulations. The 'live in' aspect allows them to quickly address changes and maintain a consistent visual identity throughout the property.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in signage designer?

A Live In Signage Designer should have a strong background in graphic design, spatial awareness, and visual communication, often supported by a degree in design or a related field. Proficiency with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, CAD programs, and familiarity with signage materials and production processes is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective client communication are essential soft skills for this role. These skills ensure that signage designs are visually impactful, functional within their environment, and meet client objectives and regulatory standards.

What are some common challenges faced by live in signage designers when working on-site, and how can they be addressed?

Live In Signage Designers often face challenges such as adapting designs to unexpected site conditions, coordinating with construction or event teams, and ensuring compliance with safety and accessibility standards. Working on-site requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick adjustments to designs based on real-time feedback. Effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders, such as property managers and installers, are essential for smooth project execution. Staying organized and proactive helps address these challenges and ensures high-quality, impactful signage results.

This is an opportunity for a talented designer who is passionate about concept-driven design and eager to take ownership of projects while continuing to grow within a collaborative studio.

Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interior Design or Architecture from an accredited institution
5-7 years of professional interior design experience

Candidates should also have:
Experience contributing to all phases of the interior design process, including programming, space planning, schematic design, design development, material and finish selection, FF&E specification, detailing, consultant coordination, and construction administration
Strong design sensibility with an eye for materials, detailing, and creating memorable spaces
Experience coordinating project teams and managing project tasks with guidance from senior staff
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines across several projects
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
Proficiency in Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and Bluebeam
A collaborative mindset with a desire to learn, mentor junior staff, and contribute to studio culture
Experience in multi-family, hospitality, or commercial interiors is preferred

At RODE, we value curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. We are looking for designers who enjoy solving complex problems, think conceptually, and are excited to help shape meaningful places alongside a talented and supportive team.
