What is a live in school custodian?

Live-in school custodians are staff members responsible for cleaning, maintenance, and security duties within a school, while also residing on the school premises. Their on-site presence allows them to respond quickly to emergencies, manage after-hours incidents, and ensure the school environment remains safe and well-maintained. In addition to routine cleaning, they may handle minor repairs, monitor building systems, and assist with event setups, providing essential support to the school's daily operations.

What are some unique challenges faced by a live in school custodian, and how can they be managed effectively?

A live-in school custodian often faces the unique challenge of balancing personal time with being on-call for after-hours emergencies, such as power outages or plumbing issues. Managing boundaries and setting clear communication protocols with school administration can help ensure a healthy work-life balance. Additionally, living on school grounds may require discretion and professionalism, especially when interacting with students or staff outside regular hours. Proactively maintaining facilities and staying organized can minimize unexpected disruptions and make the role more manageable.
