Tetra Tech is adding a Site/Civil Engineer to join our team in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This role supports the planning, design, and construction of municipal water, wastewater, and civil infrastructure projects for public and private clients throughout the United States. Working alongside experienced engineers and project managers, you will contribute to a variety of projects including water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, water distribution and sewer collection systems, stormwater infrastructure, grading, and site development.

Position Summary:
The Site/Civil Engineer provides engineering support for the planning, design, and construction of municipal infrastructure projects. Working under the guidance of licensed Professional Engineers, this role assists with engineering analyses, preparation of design documents, construction support, and coordination with multidisciplinary project teams. This position offers the opportunity to develop technical expertise while working toward Professional Engineer licensure.
Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
  • Assist with the planning and design of municipal water, wastewater, and civil infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and supporting documentation.
  • Develop site layouts, grading plans, utility plans, and stormwater management designs using Civil 3D and other engineering software.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and engineering analyses for water distribution, wastewater collection, pumping, and related infrastructure systems.
  • Coordinate design activities with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and process engineering disciplines.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and technical documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Support permitting efforts and assist with regulatory coordination as required.
  • Participate in field investigations, site visits, and condition assessments.
  • Assist with construction administration activities, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, reviewing contractor submittals, and performing construction site observations.
  • Coordinate with project managers, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies throughout project execution.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • 2-5 years of experience in municipal civil engineering, water/wastewater infrastructure, or site development.
  • Experience preparing engineering calculations and construction documents.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience designing municipal water and wastewater infrastructure, including treatment facilities, pump stations, pipelines, storage facilities, or stormwater systems.
  • Familiarity with Michigan municipal design standards and permitting processes.
  • Experience supporting construction administration or construction observation.
  • Exposure to hydraulic modeling software such as WaterCAD, SewerGEMS, or similar.
  • Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Working toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform site visits, including walking on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and perform light to moderate physical activity, including occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:
  • Combination of office and field environments, including active construction sites.
  • Exposure to variable weather conditions during site visits.
  • Moderate noise levels in office settings and elevated noise levels on construction sites.
