Job description

We are seeking a Senior Litigation Attorney with 10+ years of experience to lead the firm’s litigation matters, with a strong emphasis on probate and trust litigation,, and related civil disputes. This role is intended for a seasoned litigator who is comfortable owning cases from intake through trial and who can serve as the firm’s primary courtroom advocate.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage probate and trust litigation matters, including will and trust contests, fiduciary disputes, breach of fiduciary duty claims, creditor disputes, and contested administrations.

  • Handle guardianship and conservatorship litigation, including contested appointments and disputes involving protected persons.

  • Manage all phases of litigation, including case strategy, pleadings, motions practice, discovery, depositions, evidentiary hearings, mediation, arbitration, and trial.

  • Appear regularly in Arizona probate and superior courts, serving as lead counsel in hearings and trials.

  • Evaluate litigation risk and provide clear, strategic advice to clients regarding settlement, mediation, and trial strategy.

  • Collaborate with the firm’s transactional and estate planning attorneys when disputes arise from business, tax, or estate planning matters.

  • Maintain strong client relationships by communicating clearly, managing expectations, and guiding clients through high-conflict and emotionally charged matters.

  • Stay current on Arizona probate code, trust law, civil procedure, and relevant tax litigation developments.

  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior attorneys and staff on litigation best practices and case management.

Compensation

Competitive base salary plus bonus based on production, experience, and performance.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of litigation experience, with substantial experience in probate and trust litigation strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated courtroom experience, including hearings, evidentiary proceedings, and trials.

  • Strong knowledge of Arizona probate code, trust law, and Arizona Rules of Civil Procedure.

  • Experience handling business litigation matters is highly preferred.

  • Proven ability to independently manage complex litigation matters from inception through resolution.

  • Excellent legal writing, advocacy, and negotiation skills.

  • Active member in good standing with the Arizona State Bar.

  • Advanced legal research skills using LexisNexis, Westlaw, or equivalent platforms.

  • Exceptional written and oral advocacy skills, particularly in motions, briefs, and court appearances.

  • Strong case organization and litigation management skills.

  • Professional judgment, emotional intelligence, and empathy when working with families in high-conflict disputes.

  • Meticulous attention to detail in pleadings, filings, and litigation strategy.
