Job description

Due to strict biosecurity this job requires employee to shower in prior to staring the shift.
Position Summary:
In this position you will be responsible to provide optimum animal welfare at an intermediate level. You will advance in activities that play into the well-being and health of our birds including:
  • cleaning of barns and equipment,
  • pest management, maintenance
  • and proper running of feed and water lines
  • and collection of and processing of manure within the barn environment.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Proficient understanding of bird welfare and behavior - piling, mortality, illness, etc. Able to identify issues surrounding bird health - poor nutrition, illness and respond appropriately when necessary
  • Monitor and manage activities impacting bird welfare - including lights, air flow, heat, etc.
  • Proficient in equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Monitor and replenish pest management devices around the barn
  • Perform daily/weekly activities for the role at an intermediate level (see attachment)
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed to include weekends and holidays
  • Intermediate level of understanding of animal welfare and to report, to leadership, incidents of abuse, neglect or breach of biosecurity to preserve the health and welfare of our birds
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Have the ability to remain standing and/or walking for extended periods of time on concrete floors
  • The ability to stoop, bend, climb, and lift at least 25 lbs continuously throughout the day.
  • Working in an environment with live animals which produces a dusty environment
  • Exposure to outside elements and temperatures throughout the shift. House temperatures vary and can be hot and humid.
