Job description

JSW Steel is seeking to hire an experienced Switchman to join our team!
The chosen person will be is responsible for the safe and efficient coordination of locomotive switching operations within the facility. This role supports production and logistics by ensuring railcars are properly positioned, secured, and moved in compliance with all safety and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform locomotive switching operations to move and position railcars throughout the facility.
  • Couple and uncouple railcars, ensuring all connections are secure and meet safety standards.
  • Align, operate, and secure rail switches according to operational needs.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with locomotive operators and other crew members to coordinate movements.
  • Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections of rail equipment and report defects or safety concerns.
  • Follow all applicable safety regulations, company policies, and operating procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of railcar movements and switching activities.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving switching or logistical issues.
  • Work closely with internal teams to support production schedules and shipment deadlines.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Previous experience in rail switching or locomotive operations required.
  • Strong knowledge of rail safety rules, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including manual coupling, uncoupling, and switch alignment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • High attention to detail with solid problem-solving abilities.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts and respond to on-demand switching needs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification or formal training in locomotive operations or rail switching.
  • Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
