Live In Prayer information

What is a live-in prayer?

Live-in prayer jobs typically involve residing at a religious or spiritual retreat, monastery, or community, where individuals dedicate significant time to prayer, meditation, and spiritual practices. These roles may include responsibilities such as participating in daily worship, supporting community needs, and maintaining a prayerful atmosphere. Applicants are often expected to have a strong personal faith and a commitment to living according to the values of the community. People in these positions might also assist with hospitality, cooking, or groundskeeping as part of their service.

What are some common challenges faced by individuals working in a live-in prayer role, and how can these be managed?

Individuals in live-in prayer roles often face challenges such as maintaining personal boundaries between work and rest, adapting to structured communal schedules, and managing emotional or spiritual fatigue. Successful candidates typically find it helpful to communicate openly with team members, establish regular self-care routines, and participate in group reflections to foster resilience. Many live-in prayer teams operate in supportive, community-oriented environments where collaboration and mutual encouragement are emphasized, which helps mitigate these challenges.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live-in prayer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live-In Caregiver, you need a strong background in personal care, basic medical assistance, and daily living support, often supported by certifications in caregiving or first aid/CPR. Familiarity with mobility aids, medication management systems, and home safety protocols is typically required. Compassion, patience, and strong interpersonal communication are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills ensure the caregiver can provide safe, respectful, and effective support for clients living at home.

Job description

Oaks Church Brooklyn was planted 20 years ago in Williamsburg, and we are excited to begin the search for our fourth lead pastor. We are a non-denominational, Jesus-centered, elder-led community at the intersection of the charismatic and contemplative. We believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and are deeply rooted in the Scriptures of God. We believe God is calling this specific church to be a family grounded in prayer, presence, and holiness.

We currently gather as a single, weekly service in a fullโ€‘time leased venue with a seating capacity of approximately 250. We average 170 attendees each week. About 166 individuals are actively engaged in a Neighborhood Group, 146 serve on a ministry team or volunteer in our community initiatives, and 80 make up our membership. We continue to grow financially, with 63% of congregational giving coming from recurring monthly gifts. We champion grassroots participation, empowering members to lead initiatives in prayer, the arts, and local service.

Our next Lead Pastor is:
  • a visionary leader who provides spiritual leadership of the church, develops the staff team, collaborates with the elder team, and sets direction, goals, and ministry plans to accomplish our vision and mission.
  • a person of integrity, humility, and passion, and is committed to Biblical truth and Christlike character.
  • someone who gives themselves to communicating the vision of the church, teaching the Scriptures, equipping the church to carry out its mission, making disciples, and providing pastoral care.
Main Responsibilities include: Vision and Leadership Development
  • Leads the church with strong spiritual and directional oversight, develops and communicates a unified vision, aligns ministries with longโ€‘term goals, and guides strategic planning processes.
  • Promotes spiritual unity within a diverse church body.
  • Serves as a member of the elder team, promoting collaboration, unity, communication, and plurality of leadership.
  • Oversees staff team, including providing pastoral care, developing leadership gifts, and aligning with strategic goals.
  • Equips, develops, and empowers leaders within the church to utilize their spiritual gifts, move in the same direction, and fulfill the mission of the church.
Preaching and Teaching
  • Serves as the primary preacher and teacher of the church, ensuring that all Sunday sermons and teaching throughout the church remain aligned with the churchโ€™s theology, vision, values, and mission.
  • Leads, builds, and equips the teaching team to share the gospel story, maintain biblical integrity, uplift Christ in every text, and apply teaching to the hearts and lives of New Yorkers.
  • Oversees the development of the annual teaching calendar and the selection of guest teachers and speakers.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for the vision, purpose, and objectives of Sunday gatherings, ensuring they clearly proclaim Christ and foster unity, spiritual growth, and authentic community.
Shepherding and Discipleโ€‘making
  • Ensures that congregants receive meaningful pastoral care by establishing systems, pathways, and shepherding teams that facilitate individual care and support.
  • Engages in regular personal evangelism, discipleship, and local community activities to authentically live out the vision and mission of the church.
  • Fulfills pastoral ministry responsibilities, including officiating baptisms, overseeing church membership processes, and conducting weddings and funerals.
Other Responsibilities
  • Participates in educational training, local pastor networks, retreats, and conferences for personal, professional, and spiritual development within authorized limits, budget allowances, and church calendar responsibilities.
  • Attends staff meetings, board meetings, congregational meetings, and team meetings.
Required qualifications:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree required; seminary degree highly preferred.
  • 7+ years of ministry experience in NYC or another urban context with relevant ministry and leadership experience.
  • Affirms the Nicene Creed, Apostles Creed and Evangelical Statement of Faith.
  • Displays high personal character, deep humility, strong spiritual maturity, and models biblical family leadership.
  • Dreams big for kingdom impact in the highly transient, diverse, irreverent, and influential neighborhoods of Brooklyn.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to dynamically preach Godโ€™s Word authoritatively and winsomely to both Christians and nonโ€‘Christians.
  • Proven fruitfulness in evangelism, discipleship, leadership development, and staff team oversight.
  • Willingness to live locally, engage in cultural rhythms, and embrace life in NYC.
Salary and benefits:
  • $110โ€“150,000, depending on experience.
  • Full medical, dental and vision insurance included.
  • 403(b) 3% match.
